Fellow Seekers of the Truth,

The other day I and my Spiritual Sister both drew 48 line 3 changing to 28 in a query regarding marriage with my German boyfriend. As far as I can see, 28 implies an unusual situation that causes great stress -- an older woman with a younger man -- which is the case here.

The well is cleaned and ready -- if only the prince would notice. I presume the prince referred to here is him -- well, will he ever notice so that benefit comes to all? He has not been writing to me but is expected here in India next month. Can one succeed even after 28?

Another question here. Is 28 the future of this situation or only a backdrop for the present as has been suggested on this site? Till now I have always looked at the changed hexagram as the outcome as suggested by Wilhelm.

Hi Anita,

Why do we view some of these hexagrams as a negative thing? 28 is a preponderance of something great, or heavy. It weighs on us and its a time to consider the object of weight. The secret to making the most of the time of 28 is to gain a cheerful perspective, especially when dealing with the outside world and those around us. Its a time of standing alone and renouncing attachments to circumstances. Once this perspective has been reached, we can move forward toward the future, assured. ?It furthers one to have somewhere to go.?

Hope this helps a little.

Anita,

I confess I haven't followed all of the discussion of your situation to date, but would it be fair to say you feel this is a crisis? If so, it seems to me that it is more YOUR crisis than it is your boyfriend's crisis, or the relationship's crisis. You are desparate to know what is going on, what will happen, and you are, naturally, since this is a situation of passion, very much hopeful of a particular outcome. And yet you get silence, and that drives you even more desparately crazy.

If any of the above sounds like it fits your situation, then you might look at 28 in terms of how the stresses and pressures of this crisis are affecting your sense of your deepest values - the ridgepole that supports everything else for you. What is the "strong idea that all other ideas depend on" for you? Is it that you MUST marry? MUST marry this particular person? MUST stay within the support and constraints of your religious faith? I think the IC is saying that, for whatever reason, you're experiencing (or bringing on) greater stress than ever before on a core belief. Maybe the test will break it - and you'll break through to a deeper more profound and supportive one. Maybe the test will not break it, and you'll finally know it's strength.

Karcher says, "Great Traverses describes your situation in terms of how to act in a time of crisis. It's symbol is the ridgepole, the strong idea that all other things depend on. The way to deal with it is to push your principles beyond ordinary limits and accept the movement it brings. Have a noble purpose. Make an offering and you will succeed. Find what is truly important and organize yourself accordingly. The ridgepole of your house is warped and sagging. The structure of your life is in danger of collapse. But there is a creative force at work in this breakdown. So impose a direction on things. Have a place to go. This is pleasing to the spirits. Through it they will give you success, effective power, and the capacity to bring things to maturity."

Best wishes,
Willow

Thank you Willow and Candid.

In answer to Willow -- yes I feel I have finally made my choice and the right choice to marry this particular person and follow this spiritual path which he fortunately loves too (it is not a religion). And since he is in Germany and I'm here most of the time (the fact that he's 20 yaers younger doesn't bother us)-- and since we're not communicating for the past two months, the situation is a crisis. But his return is assured probably next month. Also hanging in the balance is the possibility of my never marrying anyone else if I don't marry him and becoming a sanyasin! Although as one I won't be able to do the worldly things like getting my other novels published! No, I actually am too restless to be one, and too attached to my looks.

Thanks both of you for your bright words. I know I will overcome. Especially because I am bolstered by my spiritual path and do make offerings regularly too.

Incidentally Candid, the hexagram that changed to 28 was indeed 47 and not 48! Mea culpa.
