Does anyone have a theory about astrology and the hexagrams? I was fooling around seeing if anything would come of matching the trigrams with the planets and signs. There seemed to be some useful correlations so I wondered if there is any established system in use?

I assigned a planet and sign to each trigram thus

Lower Upper
Chien - Sun - Leo
Chen - Uranus - Aquarius
K'an - Mars - Aries
Ken - Saturn - Capricorn
Kun - Moon - Cancer
Sun - Mercury - Gemini
Li - Jupiter - Sagittarius
Tui - Venus - Libra

To build a hexagram you would take a planet for the lower trigram and a sign for the upper trigram. Thus Hexagram 1 composed of Chien below and Chien above would be Sun in Leo. Hexagram 26 composed of Chien below and Ken above would be Sun in Capricorn.

Hello Rosada,

Some years ago I found a system that you can use when you have a astrolgy chart.

First you have the 12 astrology signs, and the 12 houses.

I found two systems of twelve what they use sometimes for dividing time.
The first one is the 12 season hexagrams. the cycle of lunar and solar energies in a year cycle. For instance in the book of the Unchanging Truth of Hua -Ching Ni and also the Can Tong Qi.

Because they are more related to the year cycle you can also put the energy of the houses on top of them.

Start of the year is in spring starting with;
First house - house of personality hexagram 11
Second house - house talent and money - 34
third house - house brother, sisters learning skills and communication - - 43
forth house - house of parents and early years - 1
fifth house house of love and children - 44
sixth house - house of work and health - 33
seventh house - house of partner and cooperation - 12
eighth house - house of mysticicum and death - 20
ninth house - house of higher vision, foreign countries - 23
tenth house - house of occupation and society - 2
eleventh house house of friends and relations - 24
twelfth house - house of religion, sollitude - 19

Another system with known anologies with the I Ching and astrology is the one with the nuclear hexagrams.(from Han Boering making the kosmic and karmick/ nuclear hexagrams)

Aries - - 39
Taurus - 53
gemini - 37
cancer - 44
leo - 28
Virgo - 43
Libra - 38
Scorpio - 54
Sagittarius - 40
Capricorn - 24
Aquarius - 27
Pisces - 23

When you now use the technique who Chris is naming XORing. You get the hexagram for a sign in a house.

For instance Saggitarius is standing in the 7 th house, the house of partners and cooperations
the 7 th house is 12 and Sagittarius is 40
12 000111
40 010100
---------
010011 is 59

When the stagnation will get out of the sphere of danger there will be a solution.

then you can look how great this house is, for instance 30 degrees than Divide this in 6 (6 lines of a hexagram) when a planet(Pluto for instance) is in 16 degrees then you can read the third line of 59.

This way you can read your horoscope with the I Ching, and look to the lines where the planets are standing.

You can get all hexagrams this way. But you can't get hexagram 29,30, 21, 22, 47, and 48.

Hallo Rosada,

I saw that I made a mistake, it is not the third line but the fourth line of 59. When it is 16 degrees.
Today i didn't type it, this I did some time ago, today I used the control c and v button but
Maybe this thread is also interesting for you to. http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/friends/showthread.php?t=315

Best Wishes from Frank

Wow, thanks for looking up this thread for me Frank. Whoa, I see there's been a lot of thought put in this direction. I think it helps with memory efforts if you can link something new with something you already know. Thus if you know astrology and are trying to learn the I Ching it's useful to be able to say, "Hexagram 58 is like Venus in Libra." or "Hexagram 22 is like Jupiter conjunct Saturn." But it can also cause your eyes to cross and head to throb...

Thanks!

I've built a whole system of my own, half of it taken from the Golden Dawn system and Crowley's 777. But both of these have big holes, especially with the Yi. I like Crowley's
assignment of 16 of the Gua to the Court Cards of Tarot, but these have astrological attributes that make a lot more sense than the decan sequences than Crowley provides.
My syatem is in the keys at the end of my book and the rationale is also discussed in the Xiao Xiang chapter.
If you're doing your own I would suggest starting with the ones in the Yi's Shuo Gua:
Li as Sun and Kan as Moon. But I do agree with your Xun as Mercury and Dui as Venus - those two are perfect.
