Austria elections re-run 4 December

This Sunday seems hot with electoral matters.
There's a referendum in Italy and a presidential re-run in Austria.
The candidates in Austria are: the green Alexander van der Bellen and the far-right Norbert Hofer.

They had this same presidential election again in Austria back in May, and Bellen won. But Hofer contested the result in court (there was some issue with postal votes) and managed to get them to void the result and do it all over again this Sunday.

Will Bellen win? 52.1.3 > 27
The toes are stopped. Split in the middle. Hunger.
The result will be too close to 50/50? Bellen will need more votes? (not sure what sense this makes)

Will Hofer win? 29.2.6 > 20
Only small gains (so he won't make much progress in his percentage).
Bound and imprisoned, someone entangled in his own sins and folly.
Hidden line here is 8.6, he finds no head to hold together with.
Maybe he will lose by a small margin and take it to court again?
I don't fully understand the 'imprisonment' of 29.6 though.

Actually none of the two readings sound very victorious to me.
Don't know what else all this could mean - any thoughts?

Hi Diamanda,

very interesting readings! As a fellow European I am quite interested in that election, especially as the previous one was essentially a draw...

I think you are right, none of these readings sound particularly encouraging, and if I was a candidate, I'd rather not have any of them for me :)

52.1.3 --> 27: Does not sound encouraging. Sounds like vdB's run is doomed before it started (Line 1). Line 3 sounds uncomfortably like a health issue to me - heart problems? IIRC there was some talk about vdB's eligibility due to his age, and also unspecified illness - but in the end it turned out to be just rumours. Still, that is what the line seems most to say to me. The changing Hex 27 is for me wide open to interpretation, but "pay attention to what you put in your mouth" could also allude to the health of a person. Both these Hexes I can interpret only on the personal human side - I find it extremely hard to put a political interpreation on them! The closest I can get is a recommendation to vdB to stop his campaign for the presidency for NOW, as the Austrian voters are deeply split in the middle about this, and increase his followership (Hex 27) until a point in time where a new campaign makes more sense.

29.2.6 --> 20: If it was not for line 6, I'd much prefer this for the winning reading. hex 29 encourages Hofer to stay strong and keep to his convictions - then he will eventually win. Even line 2 could be saying nothing worse than he should not expect a landslide win, or a large scale change of heart on the position of his opponents. So far so good. However, line 6 seems to be impossible to put a positive spin on - it is just very gloomy. The only idea I have about it is that it could mean, that he may win the campaign, but then be limited in his effectiveness by the expectations of the more right wing hrdliners of his electorate?

Well, we'll see in a few days!

best wishes

I agree, neither reading is particularly lucid nor auspicious.

For what it's worth, I was at a gathering with some Austrians last week who were cracking (weary, nervous) jokes about something else coming up that will lead to holding the elections for a third time. It sounded like there's much nuance to the whole situation, hard for non-Austrians to understand. In broad strokes, Austria's election mirrors the shifts happening elsewhere in the Western world-- Hofer is a populist xenophobe who appeals to people left behind by the neoliberalism pushed by centrists and the left for the past four decades, and by the people who stand to lose the most from mass immigration; socially he's extremely conservative by European standards, making him a far right nationalist. Alexander Van der Bellen is progressive, appeals to the educated in the cities; he's pro-EU and socially progressive. Among younger Austrians I know he is beloved as a grandfatherly figure. He has a mixed European background (mostly Estonian), and he's a child of refugees, in contrast to Hofer.

Anyway, I don't know if that context helps the interpretations. For what it's worth, I asked, "What will be the outcome?" and received 25.2.3-> 1. I read that as Hofer being the winner; Van der Bellen had the cow, but Hofer's now come along to take it. Line 2's more ambiguous. Planting the field, but not because you can count on the harvest? Staying in the present... Hm, maybe line 2 is also pointing to this round also not being final. Time will tell.

@maui - good point that 52.3 might refer to a health problem. I've usually seen it refer to heartbreak, but I've also seen it refer to physical issues.

@mulberry - thanks for all this 'insider' info! As about 25.2.3 > 1, in my experience resulting 1 plays out as a completely new beginning, unrelated to the so-far situation. A third candidate? Someone who will harvest without having prepared the soil first (25.2), an opportunist who will grab the cow? Although I have no idea how this could be possible in practical terms. Either this or what you said (Hofner wins, or yet another round).

Overall it doesn't sound like it's going to be vdBellen.

Results of Austrian election:
vdBellen won (53.31%), Hofer lost (46.69%)

I seriously don't know what to make of this one.
The reading for vdBellen was 52.1.3 > 27. From something stable (52), and via
two (stopping and splitting) lines, to the hunger of 27. How does that show a
clear victory?? Except if the scenario described has not happened yet...

And mulberry's reading pointed to a new beginning (25.2.3 > 1).
How is that then, since vdBellen remains in his position?

A complete mystery to me!

52 - 27.png
The results are close to 50/50, you were right diamanda.
I wouldn't have guessed that 52-27 meant victory for Bellen too. But if you consider 22.3, Legge: Shows its subject with the appearance of being adorned and bedewed (with rich favours). then it's quite obvious compared with 8.6 - 'no head for unifying' in the case of Hofer.

And mulberry's reading pointed to a new beginning (25.2.3 > 1).
Usually 25 for me means 'stay as is, stay disinterested, all will happen by itself'. So I would say it meant 'nothing changes'.
25.2 → 10.3 → 1, Legge:
one(Hofer) who treads on the tail of a tiger and is bitten.
(All this indicates) ill fortune.
We have a (mere) bravo acting the part of a great ruler.

I think is a very apt descripition of the result :)
And that reinforces the idea of 52-27 - He is staying still, as-is, a winner, getting what he wants (27).

Looks like in this thread hidden lines rule :)

Tim you're so right about the hidden lines here, especially the 8.6 for Hofer is stunning!
You see resulting 27 as getting what he wants, but I'm unsure. In my readings, 27 doesn't usually show achievement. I'll give this one a bit more time to see if anything else happens.

I agree, totally baffling. Though, Tim, your interpretation is really enlightening!

I had a great deal of success during the election year in the US—I knew intuitively quite earlier (nearly a full year ago) that Trump would likely win, because Yi was so consistent and on point about his chances. The nuance and accuracy was astonishing, even for me as someone who has worked with the oracle for nearly 15 years. I asked numerous questions about Hillary and Trump and the election in general (some of which I shared here in the various threads) and at times it reached that uncanny and most welcome sense of being fully conversational with the oracle. Anyway, the answers were stark and right, I don't recall any "baffling" readings like these for Austria.

On the whole, the Austrian election didn't appear particularly important globally (apologies, Austrians!) nor even within Europe, as the presidency is mostly a ceremonial role. Hofer suggested the possibility of changing that and utilizing some of the powers vested in the position that are traditionally left untouched, which would have affected how Austrian governments are formed or dissolved, I believe. (Unsure on the exact specifics.) Internally, of course, this election was important and symbolic for Austrians. Perhaps that context had some bearing on Yi's answers...? Since none of us who have contributed to this thread are Austrian.

Much to ponder!

I seriously don't know what to make of this one.
The reading for vdBellen was 52.1.3 > 27.

If you asked on December 2nd, 2016 then the answer is perfectly sound in Wen Wang Gua.
52 is total clash, therefore it is a close competition

Subject line is Yin (wood) in a month Hai (water) and day Wu (fire).
The spirit of focus is relative Office, representing power and the presidency. It is located in the same line than the subject, so the subject can get the job.
Active line 1 is Chen (earth) with relative Siblings (representing competitors), wood controls earth, so the subject dominates his competitors. The resultant is Zi (water) with relative assets (representing either money or followers). Water produces wood, so the actions of Bellen's competitor causes Bellen's followers to movilize to vote and win the election.
The active line 3 is Shen (metal) with relative Offspring (representing irresponsability). It moves to attack the subject line. But is uneffective under a day Wu (fire). So, the attack on Bellen can't defeat him.

Hope this helps or at least gives food for thought.

Best wishes

As an Austrian I can say in hindsight, that van der Bellen's victory was a pyrrhic victory. The far-right party to which Hofer belongs (FPÖ) managed to get around 23% of the vote a year later.

The right-centrist party (ÖVP), which was junior partner in a coalition with the Social Democrats (SPÖ) for much of the last decades and had poll results of 15% last summer, doubled to 30 % in early elections last winter, when a very young, slippery-as-an-eel and opportunistic guy (Mr. Kurz) took over the party in what could be considered a coup from within, and immediately aborted the coalition with the Social Democrats over petty hassles.

He led the party within a very short time period to new heights, shifting his party way right, and because he clearly wasn't a Nazi (like the FPÖ is from it's roots), and still adressed mass immigration, many Austrians who were bothered because of immigration voted for him. People voted for him who never ever would have voted for the far-right FPÖ.

Of course he went into a coalition with the FPÖ as the junior partner, and now we have a medium to far right government, and because van der Bellens office is - in practical politics - ceremonial and nearly powerless, he could do nothing about it but to reject the worst secretary-wannabes (outright Nazis) which the FPÖ wanted to install.

Hofer, by the way, is now secretary of transportation with his main "achievement" so far being to have managed to raise the tempo limit on the autobahn from 130 km/h to 140 km/h.

Thanks for the detailed update shoshin! Any ideas at all what the imprisonment of 29.6 referred to?

I got the same thing in my readings on the results of the 2016 Presidential Campaign.
