Hi everyone,
I think I have a handle on this one, but at the same time, I admire and respect your experiences and expertise with Yi while acknowledging that I sometimes see what I want to see in a reading rather than seeing what is really there. So let me know what you think:
I've been doing readings at the beginning of each season this year, as well as at the beginning of the calendar year, and there has been an interesting pattern that I see as reflecting the turbulence and uncertainty around the US election this year in particular. On 1/1/20 I asked about the outlook for the year and received 48.6 > 5, or The Well changing to Waiting. (This has relevance to other events in my life, namely, my financially fragile parents finally moving into more affordable housing, out of state). The Waiting seemed prescient given my hopes that there would be an important electoral shift near the end of the year (election day also happens to fall on my birthday--ugh).
On the summer solstice, I got 43.4 > 5, or Deciding/Breaking Through changing to Waiting (again). This seemed to me to relate more directly to my concerns about the political situation in the US. I interpreted (hoped) it as meaning that the dark force (the current Pres./Senate majority) would be pushed out by the strong lines of light, but that this process of change and transition would require serious patience, like waiting for a belly-full cloud to let its refreshing, cleansing rain fall.
Today, a few days after the autumnal equinox, when asking the same question as before ("What is the outlook on the remainder of the year?"), I got 6.5 > 64. Again, there is the sense of a change that is not yet complete, with a much greater emphasis on the conflict that is taking/will take place in the run up to this transition. (I'm also interested in the fact that 6, Conflict, follows 5, Waiting, which I got in both of the previous readings, as if this were a step past those readings?). Where I am uncertain is how much stock to put in the hope that is suggested in 64 (Wilhelm places more emphasis on it than Barrett: "With this hopeful outlook [that spring is the bridge from winter to summer, from decay to renewal] the Book of Changes comes to a close"). Barrett, meanwhile, seems to highlight the "flux" of the situation, pure and simple. It order to navigate it, one has to be like an "old fox" who uses all of its senses to cross an icy, but not yet frozen, river.
All three readings seem uncannily consistent with each other with regard to the flux of our current political, social, and necessarily by extension, personal climate. Just wondering what y'all think. Thanks in advance!
