I'm preparing my graphic design portfolio document, to be housed in a folio I've previously asked about, to present to potential employers in the coming months.

I'm concerned with appearances, and I want to put my best foot forward as I've been working towards this for a long time. I'd like to work!

I asked "How will the portfolio be received by most?": 50.2.3.4 to 23.

If I take line 3 as per the Alfred Huang method, I get the understanding that it won't be received well by most and that it will take some time for me to find those of like minds as myself. But in the end that will be ok.

I'm terrified by 23, I've been through a number of years (possibly still are) that the I Ching described as 23 and it is exhausting.

Hexagram 50,
line 2: hope to receive gain, but a bit unpleasant in the meeting.
line 3: matter will only move with difficulties until late in the year
line 4: opportunities for gain will come to nothing.

Since this is an event that have not happened yet, please alter your approach and thus alter the outcome of the event.

I think you have taken a very academic approach to this project. Show the folks what they like to see and hear, yet without compromising the contents. This is business.

Hexagram 23 means over-compromising, setting yourself to be too receptive. It also means the lack of an overall business management strategy resulted in the deterioration of the environment that you are in. Rethink....the predicted events have not happened yet.

You need a group of 3 to achieve positive results. Reasons for predicted failure:
line 2: lack of help, seduce into believing something that is not true
line 3: panic in the mid of discussion, resulting in obstacles
line 4: lack of planning, over-burden with the work, resulting in personal hardship.

In business, being technically sharp sometimes work against the score and gain. Be street smart, ask someone to help you (group of 3 recommendations from Iching).

Hi deepstillwater,

For the most part, I think you’re on the right track with this interpretation, but I would suggest that you not be frightened by any part of the answer. The Yi’s response provides guidance and, in this case, some forewarning about the possible outcome, which is helpful, giving you a chance to change the situation.

Line 3 of Hexagram 50 speaks of a vessel that is missing something necessary and because of this the food in the ding is not able to be fully appreciated. The difficulty is in discovering just what that something is, so you will probably want to consult someone who can give you some professional feedback. Talking to people who have experience with the employers you are presenting your work to would help even more, because they may have some inside information about what the employer expects from applicants.

Good luck!

Hexagram fifty represents a gradual transformation here, and it may be that things do not work well at first, but little by little....

Line 2: If a man concentrates on such real undertakings, he may indeed experience envy and disfavor, but...

Line 3: If he will only see to it that he is possessed of something truly spiritual, the time is bound to come, sooner or later...

Line 4: A man has a difficult task to which he is not adequate... I would not take that as a precursor to disaster. It means only that you must work hard to accomplish, and as in line three, you will not be recognized at first. In line two there is the possibility of resistance to others. But.... Line 3, once rain falls remorse is spent. Good fortune comes in the end. It will take time and effort, and in the meantime you must be patient and calm. Hexagram twenty three carries a similar message in that, while everything at first tends to fall apart, in the sixth line there is a large fruit still uneaten. Just allow things to happen in their own time. But you must work hard.

hello,
Tomorrow is the start of the interview process, which I had started preparing my folio for all those months ago. The first interview in the morning, and I hope there will be more interviews later... it does depend on how this interview will go.
Indeed, the past few months have been not unlike what Long Yi described:

line 2: lack of help, seduce into believing something that is not true.(I have felt very alone in my pursuit of this, despite gaining as much information, friends and helpers as I could)
line 3: panic in the mid of discussion, resulting in obstacles (My uncertainty in thinking has caused me some grief)
line 4: lack of planning, over-burden with the work, resulting in personal hardship. (I have been the most overburdened with work I have ever been, and all I have done for months and months was work 10-12 hours a day. I have been almost to breaking point with stress and worry).

Things truly came apart, despite all my efforts. However, I feel like the shackles have come off. My work has been completed, my shoes are shined and my portfolio is ready.

Wish me luck for tomorrow!

oh, and you might be interested to know this.

I asked the I Ching, "Do you have any advice for me for tomorrow?"
