Sorting through some inner baggage specifically around "vanity" and it's connotations, the binary of appearance versus substance.

"Why do people get taken up with the superficial even when it brings no lasting benefits?"

53.6> 39

The geese feathers in ritual, the beauty and flamboyance, perhaps are motivating for the final step of one stage of "gradual development" spiritually. necessary to fly over the 39 Trouble...

Before this, on a similar topic, I asked "how might I orient to my own superficiality & vanity?"

37.2.3>61

Tending to care/food....presence

Not scolding and punishing it, but also not getting caught in frivolity

Leads ...to Inner Trust.

A family that stays present and doesn't punish or praise superficial details of its members, leads to children who grow up with inner trust. So to orient towards vanity, don't think about it too much, provide care, don't be too stern or permissive.

Also, isn't 53.6 about marriage?

In any case, it seems the "superficial" appearances bring something to completion. Like a beautiful red apple would bring your eye and then you'd pick it and make a pie.....

Nice stuff to chew on. 🍲

I keep thinking about birds and their mating dances, like so:
birds of paradise

Vanity can be viewed as an excess of pride, perhaps based in attachment to an inflated ego (false self) rather than contentment authentically grounded in true self

Because they'd rather live with and put up with the hardships of aligning with the false self rather than putting themselves through what they see from a wider picture as hardships that are symbolic of compassionately walking towards the true self.

Words and thoughts are not centred or connected to the core. The past sorrows and hurts still hold sway preventing true connection to inner sincerity and the associated trust required to take meaningful steps.

53 invites gradual and due process be afforded to the marriage of Heaven and Earth: the marriage designed to improve any lack of sophistication of the unrefined aspects that reside on our inner landscape.
