Hello all! This is my first post though I've using this forum to get a broader insight of the hexs I've been casting.

Im an amateur horse rider willing to progress into professional riding. After having a very bad year 2015 (broken bones, car accident, etc) I need to start building 2016 almost from scratch.
I've been offered with two options:
- I have the chance of buying a young horse (for those who know about horses, 5 yo stallion, great jumping prospect, sire: eurocommerce Washington). This would mean to stop competing for a year in order to train him and then to "grow" with the horse (or sell it for more money after it is done). Or,
- I Also have the chance to Rent an already experienced horse which will fill my aspirations for competitions this year. This horse will probably give me a great year regarding competitions but I cannot afford to buy him.

So I asked the i-Ching:
In which situation will I be if I buy the young horse for 2016:
12.2.3.4 to 57

I understand the hex as an evolution from "stagnation" (I will have to stop competing until the horse is ready), thru "patience" and "shame" as I will have to start from lower competitions, maybe that will put me "below" other riders who are actually riding in my level... But line 4 seems auspicious: "The purpose of his mind can be carried into effect. What is willed is done". Hex 57 shows a modest success and the need to keep my ambitions/goals in mind in order to succeed.
I understand that the horse will be a good prospect but he needs work. It seems that he is the foundations of something bigger (should I ask how "bigger"?)

What would my situation be if I rent the experienced horse for 2016:
1.2 to 13

Well it seems that the experienced horse will do better... It seems he is somehow in my Tao. And that he will help me most to fulfill my dream. Hex 13 is also about success... But I can't completely understand the scope, as it talks about alliances...right?

I would much appreciate your insights on these two answers. You will surely see something I might be missing....

Thanks a lot in advance!

Ps. English is not my first language. I apologise if there are any mistakes in my post :duh:

Hi Bourbonist and welcome.

In which situation will I be if I buy the young horse for 2016:
12.2.3.4 to 57

The answer shows a situation where you won't be able to accomplish much. Furthermore, line 12.3 is quite worrying - something shameful is wrapped up/hidden? Hidden line 44.4 shows you'll struggle financially because of this.

What would my situation be if I rent the experienced horse for 2016:
1.2 to 13

I really like this answer. 1.2 is you making a great appearance in front of 13 - crowds in the open.

The first option doesn't seem good, H12 The great goes, the small comes.
A small gain for a large price. Also 12 symbolizes lack of agreement, young stallion will be rebellious and will need training for sure.
I think you will start to regret this next year (shame of line 3), and your wish(having a good horse to ride) will only come true by the 3rd year (2018).

The second option leads to an opposite hex of 13, interesting.
Here we have good understanding between different men, on the plane/field/country.
Simple and easy.
If you look at the lines following the 2nd one:

1.3 → 10 (Treading Carefully), Richmond:
All day the superior man is busy and at night his mind is active. Danger, no error.

1.4 → 9 (Small Increments), Legge:
(We see its subject as the dragon looking) as if he were leaping up, but still in the deep.
There will be no mistake.

1.5 → 14 (Great Possession), Legge:
(We see its subject as) the dragon on the wing in the sky.
It will be advantageous to meet with the great man.*

1.6 → 38 (Separation)

I think you will continue to rent this horse for 3-4 years, until you've gathered enough money to buy your own (1.5 → 14).

1st year you get acquainted with that horse
2nd you work with him, ride all year.
3rd gathering money bit by bit
4th new horse, break-through.
5th time to let go already.

Hello asteroid and thank you very much for your great reply.
Today I spoke with the jumping club and breeding facilities owner (same owner for both horses) and I told him that I will not buy the stallion for now, and will go with the rented one.
I'm pending to receive some money from a motorcycle accident I suffered a few months ago, and he agreed that there's no rush... When I receive this accident benefit we will talk again and proceed to buy a horse. I will receive this money in 1 or 1,5 years...
Again, thank you for your reply... I'm very new to the I-ching and I learn with your responses..in this case with your way of interpreting the hex.

Love,

B

Hello all! I wanted to tell you that I finnaly rented the older horse and I'm having a blast with him. He is lovely, he teaches me a lot and in return I'm taking very good care of him. We'll start competing in 2 weeks. I will update then!
Now I'm having some issues at my job which I must solve in order to have more time to ride. But everything will be ok, I know it!
