At the moment, I'm concentrating on setting up wiki software to host the collaborative WikiWing of commentary, insights and 'aha!' experiences. The challenge is to get one that's nice and usable, and also integrates smoothly with the login here, so that Change Circle members will be able to log in once and access it directly.

I spent most of last week on attempt #1 to get this done, but (cutting a long, rambling story short) with no luck in the end. Considering the amount of time I spent setting up something that isn't going to work, this could be a bit annoying.

But... I've found an alternative solution that should be much easier and sleeker altogether. It actually integrates as part of the forums, which means it's accessible and the interface is familiar. I'm about to start work on installing it now. This means that...

  1. The forum will definitely need to be closed for a while as the script sets itself up
  2. There will almost certainly be some php error messages showing up somewhere. Hopefully nothing that breaks the active forums...
  3. There's almost bound to be some unscheduled downtime with error messages about exceeding maximum connections. First when I back up the forum before doing anything else, and later when the script's doing its set-up things.
  4. Something unpredictable will happen. (Wait, did I just predict that?)
Wish me luck. Watch this space... or if this space is replaced by a string of error messages, watch something more interesting instead.

OK, I think it worked.., or at least, that nothing is broken any more. Am I right??

It seems I'm almost right. It looks like 'quick reply' always works, and 'post reply'/'go advanced' and 'new thread' will work provided there are no lists and no text indentation anywhere. If there's a list either in your post or on the page you're replying to (like this one), it times out.

I'm sure this will get fixed soon...

So, the 'Wiki' is an accumulation of people's thoughts and insights into different aspects of the Yi, yes?

Generated by whom?

Accessible by whom?

Yes. Thus far with 64 articles (well, actually 19 still to go - working on that...), but people can always add one for a trigram, or a technical term, or whatever they want to write about - or would like other people to write about.

Generated by whom?
Me, so far. And from here on in, any Change Circle members who want to contribute.

Accessible by whom?
Change Circle members, likewise.

isn't it a little bit tricky that? Are they going to be any constrains ? And who is going to check the accuracy of that notes ?

The way it generally works with a Wiki is that everyone checks. Of course, this is slightly different from Wikipedia: it's not just a matter of establishing a set of facts, but of collecting experience and insight, finding what your experience of a line has in common with mine and distilling out the essence.

I think that's the most important kind of 'accuracy' in any commentary on Yi: is it true to real experience? When you look something up, do you get a true reflection of where you are, or something that may be very wise and moving in its own right, but doesn't connect? Something that comes straight out of people's conversations with Yi starts out connected.

Academic accuracy is important, too, and good translation. I'll keep an eye on that, of course. (I expect that in practice others will, too, but I see it as more my job.)

I'm looking forward to opening to Friends on Friday.

Hilary,

Just a thought I had: is it possible to place a Facebook button where the Delicius and the others are?

Good idea! Can you point me to any pages with an 'add to Facebook' button I could copy?

Hm - it'd be easier to test whether I need share.php or sharer.php in the url if I didn't get a 404 error for facebook. grmph. Does it work for you?

Yes!! It works. I didn't post it to my profile but it took me there to do so.
