Changing hexagrams

Hello. New member here. Been using the I Ching on and off for many years now. I have a question regarding changing hexagrams. I recently asked a question and received hexagram 38 turning into hexagram 41. I understand that 38 represents the present and that 41 represents the future. So, when does the present change into the future? When does the situation change into the next hexagram? Any advice is appreciated.

The default position is: you never know.
And the future may only be in the direction of the resultant hexagram, and not go all the way there.
The way to know is to specify a span of time in your question.
The more specific your question is, the more specific your answer is likely to be.

There are many differing "opinions" on this...it has been the subject of many different discussions on various threads......sometimes the resulting hexagram is representative of either the potential or very possible future development (depending on the changes which may take place in you/circumstances)...and there is not a specific time frame for when the "future" will develop. It is relative.

Others see the resulting hexagram as the context in which the first hexagram is operating...giving the reading a depth ...for interpretation/ greater understanding.

And others may say that that the resulting hexagram is irrelevant or unimportant to a particular reading....

For hex 38 > 41, for instance, it could be that you are in a period of decrease/decline...maybe a period of diminished social contact... feeling some degree of isolation...but you will meet -or have met- someone with whom you share an affinity, with whom you will cooperate to overcome the feelings/condition of isolation.

BUT this here is just one psuedo-interpretation...I obviously dont know the specifics of your question or situation....You are the person who can divine how 41 relates to your 38, and how they both relate to what you are experiencing.

Maybe you would enjoy doing a "forum search" (from left hand column) and look up the words "resulting hexagram" in past threads' texts and titles. I am sure you will find a lot to inspire/confuse you!
