What's happening?

WikiWing is the I Ching Community's collaborative 'Wing' for Yi: a hexagram-by-hexagram, line-by-line commentary, based wholly on our own experiences in divination. It started life in 2008 with my own personal notes, and has been growing steadily through the years as people add more examples.

Up until now, it's only been available to members of Change Circle. I'm going to change that, and create a separate WikiWing-only membership at a lower price.

Why?

In a nutshell: Change Circle is on its way to becoming the 'home' to all my courses and Yi-learning materials. Once complete, that'll mean putting its price up for new members - which would mean new people could only join and contribute to WikiWing by paying the higher price. That's not - at all - the idea behind it, so now feels like the right time to open WikiWing as something you can join on its own, to read and contribute.

(To clarify - WikiWing will still be part of Change Circle, too. Change Circle people please note, you do not need to join it separately!)

How?

This isn't ready yet, but as soon as it is, there will be plenty of prominent links inviting you to join. You won't be able to miss it.

To guarantee that this is affordable, I'm going to go out on a limb and try 'Pay What You Want' pricing. The best business advice says this is risky in general, and especially daft for a recurring subscription, but Yi is very encouraging, so here we go.

WikiWing access - to both read and contribute - will be available as a monthly subscription. Pay what you want - what feels right to you. (The minimum monthly payment will be £1.)

When?

Soon! I've had to commission a new add-on to handle the 'pay what you want' subscription... that arrived this morning... and has a bug. So I need to get that fixed, and sort a couple of other technical things, and write some 'how to edit' help. If all goes well, I should be able to open the doors within 2 weeks.

...?

(space for further questions below this post...)

This is exciting! I've been wanting to join the reading circle for a long time but I simply couldn't afford it... I've benefitted tremendously from the free areas of the forum, and now being able to take another step deeper into such a valuable resource is wonderful news, Thank you!

Hooray!

The WikiWing offer is getting closer: I've got the 'pay what you want' system ready to go; next I need to write the 'help' page/post to get people off to a good start...

I think it will be exciting yes when WikiWing is accessible to many more people. As I noticed with the unchanging threads and memorising threads people have so much to contribute of their own experience with Yi and it's great to have wiki to bring it all together and create together a truly amazing resource we are all part of. There will be all kinds of subsections for people to add to and you can create your own subsections. For example experiences, quotes, thoughts on relating hexagrams, combinations of lines, anything you like. Poems, cogitations...all sorts under one roof. The beauty of it is we create it and share it together. Also importantly the subscription goes towards supporting Clarity as a whole which is good.

I use wiki often. I find the additions flesh out readings well when I am stuck. I say 'flesh out' because having people's recent thoughts and experiences and so on with a line for example, is a whole other dimension to just referring to yet another commentary in a book. It's more fleshy, immediate, real, relevant. So wiki can feel much more like a living growing thing that can breathe....can be edited, can change..always growing, alive.....tree-like in fact :) No one need feel too nervous about adding to it since if you change your mind about what you have written you can edit it out yourself or change it at any time. This is useful because often time changes our view of readings experiences. On the main forum we can't edit things after 3 days so things stay as you wrote them. Wikiwing is much more ....well much more alive because you can go and edit when you want.

I think it's going to be exciting because not only do you get access to what is already there right now, you also get the chance to actively participate in making the whole thing grow into something more and more valuable as time passes. The more people join in, the more value it accrues. Must be a 13/14 thing surely? Much more access to giving, sharing and receiving insights that might otherwise be lost. Why wouldn't you want to join and be part of it ? It's a unique opportunity to be part of making something really special so I hope lots of members who aren't in CC join the new look WikiWing because the more who join the better it's going to be....and we support the site at the same time. I know many come to Clarity with their problems and so on and it's a valuable place for them. I know it's a valuable place for me so the option to support the site and be part of creating an amazing shared resource must be a very very good thing. This must be why Hilary cast 55.5 about it, from her book

'A thing of beauty coming
Brings reward and praise, good fortune.'

A resounding "yes" to Wiki Wing being made more available! I so appreciate the thoughtful posts on the wiki. It gives me food for thought about my readings; my mind goes in directions it would not have considered for the line readings. The experiences of other people are most helpful and are often spot on for my reading.

Yes, books are very helpful with the Yi, but I find that its imagery is so multi layered that personal experiences, as Trojina wrote above, flesh them out. And whats fascinating is that these posts of personal experiences that appear opposite on the wiki, in fact, somehow compliment each other. The poems and songs people add compliment the nature of the Yi, and again, add another octave to its symphony of meaning. And also as Trojina mentioned, the unchanging thread is similar and is likewise my go to for unchanging hexagrams!

So again, yes, to making this wonderful resource more available. Kudos Hilary!

Excellent! But what is a fair monthly payment? I don't want to be insulting with my contribution but considering I haven't earned a penny since April, I can't really afford all that much. I've even had to pull out of my usual Patreon supports :(. I really wish there was a 'pay this much for a year' option too. Is that a possibility?

Thank you. Whatever you can comfortably pay is a fair monthly payment, by definition. If I didn't think £1 a month was fair, I wouldn't have started it at £1/month ;) . Also, it would be brilliant to have your insights added to WikiWing!

I haven't set up an annual payment option for it, sorry. There was some technical tricky thing about having two different 'pay what you choose' plans on one product... I must look into that again...

But while I'm not set up for a recurring annual payment for WikiWing, you could certainly send me a one-off Paypal payment (to hilary@onlineclarity.co.uk) for a single year's access.
