Complicated relationship. 50>44

Hello! this is my first post here.

Let me explain what I have gone through.

I lived with a woman close to four years. It all went well at the beginning until I saw her evil sides taking over. She once told me "Satanism is the right way." To which I was shocked. She turned out to be having used magic to entice me in a love affair with her. She was intuitively learning magic from spirits.

Her aim with me was as stated "I saw a vision of us being happy in hell."

She wanted my soul. I couldn't break apart from her. The soul ties she was constantly reinforcing with magic and intent was too strong for me to leave her or kick her out. Constantly aware what she was after.

I desperately do not want to ever meet this woman again or have her gain control over my soul. I fear every day she may come after me somehow.

A few days ago I asked a friend if he wanted a reading. He would think of a question in his head and I would do the reading blind.

I got 50.2 (second from the top down) and 44.
50 is The Cauldron.
44 is Coupling.

It was immediately clear to me that the question he had in mind was not about him but about me. I told him that and he laughed.

The question he posed was: "what will be the outcome between you and your ex"

Please advise on meaning.

I got 50.2 (second from the top down) and 44.

Just a quick point, the conventional way is to count from the bottom, and it's kind of important. So, your line would be 50.5. From Wilhelm-Baynes:

The ting has yellow handles, golden carrying rings.

It's a very valuable object, beautiful and useful. It is used for the ritual providing of nourishment to a community or group of people. I think it's weird that when you offered to do a reading for a friend, they asked a question that was not only about you, but for you. If I were you, I'd ask them why they did that. Did they not agree with your perceptions of your relationship with this evil, demonic, satanic woman from whom you can't break loose? Perhaps they thought that you needed some insight, and that it would come better from the Yi than from them, that you wouldn't listen if they told, but you might listen to the Yi. The reading is not sparklingly clear to me, but it does make me wonder if your perceptions of the relationship isn't ... misguided. Delusional, even. That in fact you aren't recognizing it's value.

Thanks for your replies, both of you.

You have to understand what this witch wanted with my soul. She wanted it unified with hers.

To me the intuited answer comes from the names of the hexagrams.

The Caldron + Coupling.

The cauldron is the mixing vessel for our souls. Coupling is what happens in the cauldron when our souls are unified.

Anyway, that's what I get!

Did your friend ever tell you why they asked that question? Did you see it that way before they told you what question they had in mind?

Very true, that would be 18, not 50. What 18 and 50 have in common is 18's also a "contained/container" sort of hexagram - the mountain trigram on top traps stale air (and other poisonous horrors) beneath it.

18's main point is healing the corruption, but still, corruption is where it starts.


50 is a different kind of container, not like that at all, despite what your relationship was. It's probably important to note that your friend's question was future-oriented, what will the outcome be.

Couple of ideas:

• Line 5 emphasizes the cauldron's carrying rings and the handle by which to carry it. Stresses its portability. 44 relating reflects your experience of a really scary, disruptive relationship, but the primary hexagram, what you actually have to work with, seems to say you can move on from this. It's changed you, you'll never be the same as you were before, but your Vessel is intact and you can take it elsewhere.
• Hilary makes the point in WikiWing that 50.5's Vessel is stable and spacious enough to withstand 44.
  

  50 zhi Hexagram 44, Coupling. The vessel is stable and lasting because it can be moved. It can receive the powerful woman, celebrate the new queen perhaps, be moved by her and not be toppled. An establishment with space to contain (and transform?) the unexpected and potentially disruptive.

So you must have gotten 50.5 is that right ?

The question is a bit odd, to be honest, even though I kind of understand what you’re asking. It’s odd because you already know the outcome (you broke up) and so maybe this is just saying “good luck and move on, don’t worry about it anymore”

You might be interested in Lise’s comment on this line:

So I take it 50>44 means that she seeks me out.

She's a satanist witch and the above explanation pretty much nails that bit. Also female. Nails it again.
Quite a literal explanation!

Would others see this reading differently? Will she somehow get a grip over me again in the future?

Well, if you want to look at Wilhelm's commentary on the relating hexagram to a reading you cast over a year ago and decide that that means that this woman still has power over you, you can, if you like. But it seems like you've already decided what the I Ching is going to tell you, and you'll twist whatever it actually says to fit that.

In all the good horror stories I've read, there's a rule that the evil spirit can only cross your threshold if you invite it in. And then you can't get rid of it, or not easily. I don't think this woman can have any power over you unless you give it to her. She might well have forgotten that you even exist by this time. I think you are creating her in your own head. Leave her alone.
