I think I've just discovered this doesn't happen as it does with thread posts. Boo...

(Yes I know I'm a great proponent of ctrl-a, ctrl-c. Be nice if I'd follow my own advice.)

Yes, but that's not what this is about. What happened was I was typing a post in a conversation, decided to Google something, and opened Google in that same tab like an idiot. When I used the back arrow in my browser to go back to my post, it was gone, and wasn't retrievable from tab history like things sometimes are.

But what I have just discovered is that starting a new conversation retrieves the old, lost one. (In this case, the new conversation was with the same person as the lost one; don't know if that's essential.)

Note: when I said this -
What happened was I was typing a post in a conversation
- I wasn't being careful with words.

What exactly happened was:
  • start a conversation with A
  • in the middle of typing the first post in that conversation, navigate away in the same browser tab to somewhere like Google
  • when you navigate back again, the conversation's gone and I couldn't find a way to retrieve it
    • ctrl-z (undo) didn't work
    • selecting a previous entry in tab history didn't work
    • neither did refreshing the page
  • but then, in this case a couple of days later, start a whole new conversation with A - the lost one reappears
