Usually, we would see flu dying off in the Summer due to the inability to thrive in the heat. This is what really happened after the Swine Flu and the Avian Flu.

What will happen to Coronavirus in the Summer? 17.3.4.5 Following to 36 Bright Hidden (Darkening of the Light).
Hex 17: At the centre of the lake is thunder: Following. A noble one at nightfall Goes inside for renewal and rest.
Line 3: Bound to the mature man, Letting the small child go. Following, there is quest and gain. Settling with constancy bears fruit.
Line 4: Following makes a catch. Constancy, pitfall. With truth and confidence, holding to the path with clarity, How can this be wrong?
Line 5: True and confident in excellence. Good fortune.
Hex 36: Brightness enters the earth's centre: Brightness Hidden. A noble one, overseeing the crowds, uses darkness and light.
Hex 17 refers to it becoming stagnant before getting stronger, line 3 refers to there is a goal, infecting more, line 4 refers to people becoming aware and stop it in its track, line 5 refers to the flu being successfully eradicated, and hex 36 refers it being gone.
Is it saying that Coronavirus will be stagnant before becoming stronger (line 17) before it loses its effectiveness (hex 36), where it will infect more (line 3), where people will trap it (line 4), and be successfully eradicated (line 5)?

How will Coronavirus affect the Olympics? 28.2.5 Great Exceeding (Preponderance of the Great) to 62 Small Exceeding (Preponderance of the Small).
Hex 28: The lake submerges the tree: Great Exceeding. A noble one stands alone without fear, Withdraws from the time without sadness.
Line 2: Withered willow sprouts a shoot, Venerable man gets a young wife. Nothing that does not bear fruit.
Line 5: Withered willow sprouts flowers, Venerable woman gets an upright husband. No blame, no praise.
Hex 62: Above the mountain is thunder: Small Exceeding. A noble one in actions exceeds in respect, In loss exceeds in mourning, In spending exceeds in economy.
Hex 28 refers people won't come, line 2 refers people young people will not come, line 5 refers that nobody is excited, and hex 62 refers to hosting the Olympics leads to loss.
Is it saying that people won't attend (line 28) where the city experiences monetary loss (line 62), where young people won't come (line 2) and nobody is excited (line 5)?

Hi I also asked about the Coronavirus impact....

28 2&5 to 62
My interpretation of one of your readings is similar to yours that the Coronavirus will put a great strain on ppl organising the event to cancel.

There will be a regeneration attempt to ignite Olympian spirit when it seems that things are in control but eventually perhaps the olympics won’t be as important in light of the impact on the athletes their home countries the hosts country with restrictions dimming the spirits because of the health implications of travel and crowds.

Pressure hope resignation of a fruitless endeavour and perhaps cancellation 62....:(

It doesn’t seem like a good reading ....hopefully corona disappears...soon ....

Hello!

What will happen to Coronavirus in the Summer? 17.3.4.5 Following to 36
It will contaminate more mature people, more people catch it in general, the disease continues and darkens the light of summer.

How will Coronavirus affect the Olympics? 28.2.5 Great Exceeding to 62 Small Exceeding
The Olympics will be held despite all the mess and unusual conditions. Coronavirus will have little effect on it.

I disagree with the interpretation of 36. I see it as a picture of what will happen TO coronavirus and not to the summer itself. Because this is the way the question was asked. So I think it could be auspicious.
Line 3 suggests an attempt to the older people.
Line 4, Persevering but trapped
Line 5 Having confidence in goodness is auspicious. Returning in joy
Again: auspicious for us and our summer or for the virus? I’m not sure.

Maybe the virus could change its form and become less powerful...
Or it could hide for a while in the dark and then come back....

36 Darkening of the Light.
The virus will go into hiding.

17.3.4.5 Following. 17 also means following after, as in "Hunting."
Some older people may get sick.
But a team of researchers will be hunting the virus down.
There will be some benefit for humanity in going through all of this.

So how should we now interpret 28.2.5-62?
Maybe 62. as the second hexagram indicates taking extreme precautions?
I now see 28.2.5 = Don't rock the boat!

What will happen to Coronavirus in the Summer? 17.3.4.5 > 36
It will initially 'follow' old people (17.3).
It will then 'follow' anyone and everyone (17.4).
It will 'follow' prominent/famous people (17.5).
Hidden lines are 49.4 (governments will fall), and 63.5 (whoever kills their own cow/livelihood is in for trouble - not taking east and west into account here because this is global). 36 is not a good result... Darkness and injury. This virus looks to be unbothered by heat, it's in all countries regardless of climate, so I don't think summer climate will affect it.

How will Coronavirus affect the Olympics? 28.2.5 > 62
In retrospect about this one - no idea about the lines, can't figure them out here. 28 is a grave, and 62 is 'not flying', and refers to mourning. So, the hexagrams predict the cancellation, but the lines, I'm not quite sure. Hidden line 31.5, indifferently shrugging one's shoulders, the Olympics is the last thing most people care about now.

It will 'follow' prominent/famous people (17.5).

17.5 says "Legge: The fifth line, dynamic, shows us the ruler sincere in fostering all that is excellent. There will be good fortune."
Infection of famous people cannot correctly be interpreted as "good fortune."
More like the Ruler and Ministers work on a vaccine.

17.4 says Wilhelm/Baynes: Following creates success. Perseverance brings misfortune. To go one's way with sincerity brings clarity. How could there be blame in this?
Success in hunting the virus suggest finding treatments and cures that work. One walks the way without blame, and with sincerity and clarity. Although one cannot assign human virtues to a virus, that is hardly the description of a disease, and blame or the lack thereof irrelevant.

17.3 says Legge: The third line, magnetic, shows us one who cleaves to the man of age and experience, and lets go the little boy. Such following will get what it seeks, but it will be advantageous to adhere to firm correctness.
This line is more up for interpretation I think than lines 5 and 6.

How about...
17.3 The country pays attention to the advice of learned doctors rather than the wishful thinking of politicians.
17.4 . Maybe saying everyone follows their own best guess, intuition. For some this will lead to misfortune but, hey, maybe trying different things is the only way we learn - and maybe ultimately leads to a cure.
17.5 Again, different approaches lead to discoveries? It will be interesting to see who or what emerges as “the ruler”, fostering what works and is “excellent.”

36. Maybe no new cure, just the realization that staying indoors is what works? Or the virus settling down, going into hibernation?

28.2.5-62.
Being particularly cautious - 62 - required the collapse/cancellation - 28 - of the Olympics but I think the lines indicate the event will survive the delay.

Well well, what'd'ya know.... today it was announced in the UK that Boris Johnson (UK prime minister), Matt Hancock (health secretary, one of the 'top' guys), and Chris Whitty (UK's chief medical officer, also one of the very 'top' guys), all have covid-19. Infection of these particular famous people is actually good fortune, because their so far policies have already condemned thousands of UK citizens to death. So perhaps if their lot gets out of the way, more citizens will survive.

Oh.... I just had a small epiphany....
63.5 (whoever kills their own cow/livelihood is in for trouble
The cow = the herd = the moronic "herd immunity"!
Any country going by "herd immunity" are doomed.
UK, Netherlands, Sweden. Any more that I'm missing?

This has to be one one the the most twisted, partisan, nasty interpretations of the Yi ever.
It is based entirely on your political conceit, and assuming the Yi subscribes to it and agrees with *your* thinking some people are better off dead.
Shame on you. You have wandered very very far from the Tao.

To me 62 has always meant “not really going any far”.
Isnt line 5 where the tree collapses?
genwrally28 is when something is too heavy and can’t be held tight

Querent777 - take it easy tao-police. All the shame goes to those responsible for thousands of preventable unnecessary covid deaths, not to me for pointing out the culprits. There's no "tao" which says that it's fine to kill off tens of thousands btw, that's called evil.

Olga - agree on 62 'not going far', also it means not flying. And indeed we've seen many countries suspending flying. In line 28.5 the tree doesn't collapse, it flowers.
So in 28.2 the old tree produces sprouts at the root (= new life, young life), while in 28.5 the renewal is at the top (= old life). As you say, 28 is something too heavy. Japan went into considerable effort for the Olympics to still go ahead. They tried to find solutions, so perhaps the new shoots and flowers refer to those interim ideas?

Could the flowering have anything to do with Japan’s famous flower sprouting celebration?

Reading the lines again, the old tree blooming may refer to the Olympics being held later than expected, or in strange conditions (a season other than summer? a different audience management? ...). I don't see the difference going very far, though (62).
