crisis regarding the answers I get

I've been having a small crisis here with some answers. The answers themselves are unimportant but it's the fact that they're telling me something that I in no way see happening on the surface. They're telling me that a situation is really good, when it looks really bad. I'm having doubts about the IC because of it. Is the IC lying to me or is there something about this situation that I'm not seeing and the IC is trying to alert me to that fact? Am I going to find out later that the IC had been right and that I simply hadn't had all the facts?

The I Ching never lies. Usually it is something in ourselves that obstructs the clarity and light coming from the book. Also, appearances can be deceiving. There is that line from a Gilbert and Sullivan song: "Things are seldom what they seem, skim milk masquerades as cream". I would try to examine myself on how well I have understood the oracle's reply. Also the I Ching might be speaking to important issues below the surface.

Here's an example of the kinds of answers I'm receiving. Something awful is currently happening to me and when I asked "Why is this happening to me?" I got 45.2.4 to 29. 29 reflects what's going on but those two lines in 45 are good! I'm so puzzled and upset at this.

I think you should write down exactly the awful things happening to you.
So maybe somebody can analyze 45.2.4 but background information is necessary.

I'd have to write a novel the size of War and Peace in order to explain it. However, I can tell you that it has to do with someone that I'm estranged from, someone I don't ever feel that I'll be able to see again. I feel that the events of late have cemented that fact for me. I'm despairing at the moment. When I asked I was very surprised at the answer because it suggests the exact opposite. This is happening to me for what reason exactly? The hexagram is about joining with others and the two lines are good.

if you toss coins etc and so use magical/random methods you can get that - these sorts of methods are inconsistant. Its the Emotional I Ching for you....

The focus is on getting the IC to ask YOU questions and it will give you an image of the context pushing your buttons. Given that image we can identify in general its development and YOUR consciousness can then choose to go with the flow or fight it or move on.

I think the guidance is there. Perhaps the despair that you are experiencing is clouding the possibility that the IC is speaking to you but you can't see it. I had this trouble when I first began looking at the IC and it used to frustrate the hell out of me. I wanted quick solutions! When actually the guidance was there all the time. I just needed to deepen my knowledge of how the IC works and look at it from different angles and possibilities. Imo, you're looking at it too simplistically right now.

I often got 45 (and still do) when I have problems of an emotional nature where I need to "gather together" myself INSIDE and integrate the chaos in order to address what was going on outside.

45 seems to be about security very often and building that sense of security so that you can go forward. If your own centre does not have unity of a kind that let's you formulate goals and directives then establishing outer forms of security and progress is also going to be difficult. So, get some help with this. And from the reading it seems that all is not lost!

hey esolo, thanks so much for this thread! i just got 45 to 29 yesterday. i love what you wrote topal.

i see now, that i was in danger of a "repeating danger", an emotional pit i had been in, through the fact, of very fortunate circumstances.

Once, between contracts and working two chump jobs just to get by, I lost the full time job. The temp assignment was over. No warning. My portent for the day suggested it was the best day of my life. Within a few days I was on a new contract and couldn't make it to the part time job I still held, not that I needed it anymore. Pissed off the part-owner, but she was leaving the biz, anyway and the others still love me So she had to work for a change. That's her lesson.

IME certain people are best left outside even if it hurts to give up what you may or may not have ever had. I look at rejection and loss as wide open doors to better opportunities. When I pull my head out of self pity, of course.

So congratulations. Glad to hear better things are on their way.
