Good afternoon or ahem evening all depending on where you might be. :)

I asked "what would be the outcome if J and I stay here in this town in our present home"? and received Hex 29 Repeated Chasms, red line at top of the Hex 29, Then relating Hex, Dispersing with no changing lines.

I am asking for more help in understanding whether the line in red was in first or sixth place as it would make the meaning different of course. As I've told people here before I have a learning disability something like dyslexia although it hasn't been diagnosed as such but it is nevertheless destructive to my learning process.

I know that we are to read the lines from the bottom up. Since the changing red line in Hex 29 was placed at the very top of the hex would that be considered line one or line six? do we count from one to six bottom up or six to one bottom up? I am thoroughly confused. Can you imagine how school was like for someone like me with this problem with clarity

At any rate, the sentence in the red line stated (if it is line one) "Repetition of the Abysmal. In the abyss one falls into a pit. Misfortune." Growing accustomed to danger"

Why do we read the lines from the bottom up? That is what is really confusing me. A very hearty thank you to all for insight. :) BTW, for those of you who remember that my husband has to decide whether or not to keep the heart life vest or get a defibrillator he is presently in touch with new Drs. in another state and they are debating on the outcome.

Hi Tange, nice to meet you!
We count the lines from one to six bottom up,.. kind of counter intuitive to us in the west. I don't know if I can say why it has evolved this way, but personally I like to see it like building a house. One doesn't start with the roof, but begins from the ground up, foundation first. In that way it makes a lot of sense.

Here's my try at your reading..

"what would be the outcome if J and I stay here in this town in our present home"?
29.6-->59

Seems like the yi is saying it's time to move. 29 warns of some kind of precariousness or vulnerability. The six line really stresses it as a warning, perhaps its not appropriate for some reason to continue living there, maybe for financial or health reasons?

Make sense?

Decision to move? Kalikari

Greetings Kalikari,

So if I understand you right, we should read a hexagram as bottom line one to six up : 1be read as sixth
2be read as fifth
3be read as fourth
4be read as third
5 be read as second
6 be read as first

In my reading above that you replied to here, the red changing line was on the top as in 1 be read as sixth.
Am I getting the process right yet?

The meaning you gave "Seems like the yi is saying it's time to move. 29 warns of some kind of precariousness or vulnerability. The six line really stresses it as a warning, perhaps its not appropriate for some reason to continue living there, maybe for financial or health reasons? is so appropriate! It actually gave me goose bumps because of it's accuracy.

Our mobile home is in a state of disrepair, floor boards coming up from loosening, getting harder to remove snow from ramp in winter, etc. and a possible stalker who I thought was a good friend to my husband and I. So Kalikari your words, "precariousness and vulnerability" are both right on. Now I know that the right thing for J and I to do is to move to the possible apartment as soon as it comes available.

I very much appreciate the fact that you took the time to help me to figure the meaning of the hex out and hopefully I am on the way to understanding the way to do the hexes? Thank you. Tange4:hug:
