How do I pull myself out of this depression?

Hexagram 56.4.6 into Hexagram 15.

I interpreted this in 56 as in I am not at ease in my mind. Things are dark. This says even though I have a temporary job (internship), I am still not glad. Line 6 implies I have hurt myself and lost a potential friend? Hexagram 15 is modesty....but doesnt say how to pull myself out.

Maybe it's saying: keep travelling, keep wandering, keep moving on and on, until you find something to take in, that'll light up your life. When you find this, and it might take a while (56 usually indicates long journeys), be modest enough to welcome it without prejudice.

and remember: getting there's half the fun

edit: depression, I know that feel man, but you gotta move forward. Best of luck.

It could be that you must be more modest with yourself: Get what help you can with your depression (perhaps even medication/some therapy may help you through this transition?) and be gentle on yourself until it passes. Line 4 is sometimes read as "I am not at ease in my mind" which describes the depressed state and perhaps how you feel about the internship.

Line 6 of 56 a self-injury, caused by trying to hurt someone else: "The traveler first laughs, then weeps, as he sees that the misfortune of another will also be his own" is how one commentary put it. It comes back on them. Perhaps this is not you, but someone else? I am a believer that even when we ask about ourselves, some of the lines apply to what someone else is doing to us: It has been so with many of my readings.

In any case, perhaps you should do another reading such as, "What step can I take to begin the process out of this impasse now?" or something along that line.

Hello, I know the feeling all too well...
But it looks as if you associate your depression with work or the lack of it, according that you interpreted the lines in that sense.
If I follow that lead, I would say that this cast may be advising you about it:
Modesty is more about honesty, I was told...leveling things down, you expectations with your possibilities, being realistic maybe;depression tends to lore us into its own gray world and we are unable to snap out of it and grasp the reality and try to live in the moment and the reality again rings in the 4th line:
This describes a wanderer who knows how to limit his desires outwardly, though he is inwardly strong and aspiring. Therefore he finds at least a place of shelter in which he can stay. He also succeeds in acquiring property, but even with this he is not secure. He must be always on guard, ready to defend himself with arms. Hence he is not at ease. He is persistently conscious of being a stranger in a strange land.
you are aware of your position as unsecure and it makes you anxious and worried and on guard.
6th line in that context would indicate that you shout hold on to the job, even if you are not happy with it and persist, use it as a point of recovery, the place where you need to function and persevere in everyday routine if that is a problem..so perhaps this is a warning to be realistic and work with what you have got in order to keep yourself above the water and build from there onThe picture of a bird whose nest burns up indicates loss of one's resting place. maybe balance the work with free time, etc. building an busy routine if through carelessness a man loses his cow-i.e.,his modesty and adaptability-evil will result.(Wilhelm) and adopting to the means available and going along with it may be the thing to help.
I know its easier said then done, but this is what it made me think of.

I would never try to hurt someone else. I was just looking to be friends, but since I am shy and don't talk much, sometimes I can come off as aloof even though I tried to make eye contact she averted her eyes and darted in the opposite direction.

Anyway, foxx777 - I asked the i-ching the question you suggested. What step can I take to begin the process out of this impasse now? Doesn't look favorable though.

Hexagram 25.1.2 into Hexagram 6. I take this as as not good because of hexagram 6 conflict. There is nothing I can do. Hexagram 25.1.2 seems favorable that I will get through this feeling of unease/shock but hexagram 6 implies no progress?

Dragona - I was kinda of referring to 2 things when I threw this regarding my entire situation both job wise and someone I wished to meet. But since the job thing is going for me, I was looking forward to the former but that didn't happen either. So now I just need keep my head above the water somehow.

I would not read this as unfavorable. As Dragona said, your depression makes all look gray now. Conflict may be within yourself, and "a cautious halt halfway brings good fortune." I did not mean to suggest you had hurt anyone: Could she have unfairly hurt you? If so, be kind to yourself. You sound like you are struggling as best you can. Yes, 25.1.2 should be read as favorable: Unfortunately, my computer is messed up and I cannot click on links to paste any text. Hang in there.:bows:

You could focus on your job and be very conscientious about all the details and routines involved. That could be your "point of recovery," as Dragona said. If you lose your job because of this depression, everything will be much, much worse. Depression tends to make us forget to get to work on time and so forth, so sticking to the routine and doing what's expected of us can be a lifesaver when we're down in the dumps.

This is indicated by the hexagrams:

56.4 > 52, staying put
56.6 > 62, conscientiousness.
Overall, 56 > 15, being more realistic and having the humility to accept your human limitations, which we all have.

It's spring and there may be opportunities to be out in nature where the trees and grass are oh-so-green. Just being outdoors in the sunlight can help lift a depression. Any kind of athletic activity, even taking a walk, is very good, too.

Hmmm..there was no text, just the question with the cast...so two things are bothering you but you ask third question? Ok, but isn`t it better to ask explicitly? This could have been about your current situation than...as Yi often gives the picture...
and also, why viewing the resulting hex only as a result? It is often the place you go from, your stand, your reflection...say you are conflicted about this and that, how to procede, what way?
the answer proposed is Innocence, not trying to pretend, force, but turn towards your inner qualities, relax, be more...hm..spring like..chime in with the tides, open up and let things flow
Six in the second place means:
If one does not count on the harvest while plowing,
Nor on the use of the ground while clearing it,
It furthers one to undertake something.
We should do every task for its own sake as time and place demand and not with an eye to the result. Then each task turns out well, and anything we undertake succeeds.

I would say the message is to live in the moment, not to worry about the outcome but take it step by step and try to work the best with what the day holds.

See? :D Exactly...walks and just enjoying the season...trust me, I know what am sayin and I need more of the same..and less, so much less thinking as hopex said the other day...not taking things so serious would be great:hug:

Ginne, thanks. I agree that losing my job is much worse so I need to stay very conscientious. I also agree with having the humility to accept your human limitations. Getting outside just to walk does always help. Tried it today and felt a little better.

Dragona - I agree about doing every task for its own sake and not focusing eye just on the result. After you mentioned this I came to realize it. My mind is always racing ahead of me if that makes any sense.

Fox777 - I know 25.1.2 sounds favorable, but the hexagram 6 after it does not. Even though I feel she was unfair, since there is nothing in my power I can do, I guess the best thing to do is acceptance. Thanks for the input.

A brief analysis using 6-line method

I converted your reading into a Chinese 6-line Iching reading. Emphasis is made in analyzing the time of the Iching reading and the relationship with the characters in the 6-line of hexagram 56 and hexagram 15. Since you do not indicate what is in your mind when you read. I can only provide an estimate of question as job related. Please see end of post for my answers.

Using the Chinese 6-line iching method, there is a disagreement between you (line 1) and a female (line 4). The line 4 female is the change line. If it is a job situation, the boss does not like or trust this female. Line 6 is a friend and is also the change line. The friend in line 6 has something to do with the line 6 female. If line 1 is you, then the hidden character is some type of job papers. Since the hidden line 1 character related to a job document or offer and sit empty under the month you did the reading, there is no chance that you will get this job. If you are humble, you should move on (line 5 of change hexagram show movement). Things may be resolved. Your boss may be forcing you to leave.

Im a little confused by this interpretation regarding the way you worded it. Although I would not be surprised if I am forced to leave since I've been at the internship for so long. I wasn't specific when i threw the coins, but I was referring more to a failed friendship. I also had the job situation on my mind since everything is chaotic right now and pulling me down. I guess regardless whether its referring to the friendship or job I am going to have to move on.

Concerning relationship, it has ended. One party has other interest with someone else. You are not getting any support from friends or family concernig this relationship. It is like a glass that may crack into pieces any time (Ma's Iching theory). This female will not be your life-time partner. There is someone else (may be your competitor) appearing in the hexagram. If you are male, the female wants to leave (line of hexagram 54 reappearing in line 6 of hexagram 15). On the outside, everything looks good. However, this is not the real picture.

The change hexagram has five yin lines and one yang line. If you are male, the man has many female friends.

With regards to work, line 6 = change line means: good luck starts to change and end. If you force yourself to stay in this situation, this will lead to financial loss (may be waiting for another job to show up). Change of environment is required.

Line 4 to 6 in hexagram 15 is trigram "Li", meaning clinging to fire.
Line 1 to 3 in hexagram 15 is trigram "ken", meaning keep stil like a mountain (earth).

As a result, "Li - fire" produces the "ken - earth"
In plumb iching theory, the utility trigram (line 4 to 6) give birth to the body trigram (line 1 to 3).

If you prepare to change, things will start to look positive for romance, job and financial matter. Summer are good months. All the best. I did not analyze the timing of future events.

Interesting metod. But one could get more from asking specifically
Like: what will my internship result with/how it will end?
Show me a picture of the situation with lady x? How to best approach that person?
Good luck, d.

I don't know how to do the Chinese I-ching 6 line method, so if any wants to try and interpret this question for me I'd appreciate it. As for potential lady x, I'm trying to accept that's black hole now whether its my fault or not. But regarding the internship - I asked:

Is there anything I can do to prolong my internship? Hexagram 22.4 into Hexagram 30

Not sure what the Chinese I-Ching method looks like but this saying I'm seeking hard to stay where I am and not sure about hexagram 30 but maybe implies that in order to stay I must shine bright the best work/qualities I can give.

Long Yi - thanks for the break-down. I'm not sure if I agree about good luck coming to an end since I believe it was not luck but persistency and hard work. But I will try to prepare for change. thanks. There is no financial loss - since this is an internship I don't care about losing any money I pay for rent - I see it as an tradeoff; the money I earn from the internship pays for rent.

A complex answer you received. I'll do my best.

From Grace to The Clinging

Fire at the foot of the mountain, then that which is bright rises twice. The fire which adorns the mountain (the face you wear, your outer appearance) consumes the mountain until it is concealed. The only way to prolong your internship would be to give up your true self and hand yourself over to your outer being. Put on your biggest "kiss ass" game-face and really cling to the internship with all of your "beauty of form", ignoring your real, stable feelings (the mountain). But there is danger in this:

GRACE has success.
In small matters
It is favorable to undertake something.
...
Thus does the superior man proceed
When clearing up current affairs.
But he dare not decide controversial issues in this way.

Utilizing your grace until it takes over definitely means you are deciding a controversial issue, why else would there be need for it? And the I Ching explicitly warns against this. So while it may work temporarily, there's no lasting gain. And a fire only lasts as long as it burns up all it has, in this case, the mountain.

I still think the best thing to do is to move on, even though it's hard. But the I Ching does (imo) show you a way not to, for the time being.

Simplicity and honesty are all that matter now. Don't be a person who runs after the glittering prizes of life. Be someone who is reliable, straightforward, and honest. Also, continue on as you have been doing, because the simpler direction is the direction of true grace.

I am not familiar with some of these other methods. Interesting to see them, though.

hmmm...I think the answer comes back at you as why you want to prolong your stay so much?
tuck chang says the essence for this line is: "Correctly select what one really needs."
wilhelm:
Grace or simplicity?
A white horse comes as if on wings.
He is not a robber,
He will woo at the right time.

An individual is in a situation in which doubts arise as to which is better-to pursue the grace of external brilliance, or to return to simplicity. The doubt itself implies the answer. Confirmation comes from the outside; it comes like a white winged horse. The white color indicates simplicity. At first it may be disappointing to renounce the comforts that might have been obtained, yet one finds peace of mind in a true relationship with the friend who courts him. The winged horse is the symbol of the thoughts that transcend all limits of space and time.

to me this kinda goes with miryou1`s conclusion but also raises questions: why do you want to prolong this so much? will it pay off if it is not really helping you show your real talents?
I think it wants you to take a look at your needs and look into the bigger picture...and keep looking, there may be something better obtained in the end.

Can you realize what you are doing just now? You're casting hexagram after hexagram... I can't see how this is gonna help you. To interpret a single hexagram is already hard enough. How can you expect to have a clear answer when you have so many hexagrams to think about?

See the first hexagram you cast: 56 (wandering). This is exactly what you are doing. You are wandering through the hexagrams.

See line 6: "The traveler first laughs, then weeps aloud."

You´re after some momentary relief (laughs), but this relief is not real, it's just fantasy. You´re looking for relief in the hexagrams.

Judgment: "Success in what is small".
You´re not searching for what is small. You want big changes, but they can't be accomplished right now. You have to accept that or you'll face the fate of line 6.

Change will come, but slowly. Nothing lasts forever, that's the I Ching message. Go after what is small and the transition will be easier.

If you´re really depressed you should see a doctor and get medication. Depression is a desease and must be treated by a doctor.

If you're very sad - but not depressed - bear in mind that darkness doesn't last forever, light will come in time. Talking therapy may be helpfull too.

What I seek is just a temporary place to work while I still look out for full-time opportunities. The reason I want to be where I am currently at is because it is good experience and a great resume builder ( although I question that now since I still haven't found anything). Now, I am preparing to interview for an internship on Thursday. So I wander around and about trying to find a place to settle and my identity.

reinaldo - im not that depressed at that point where I need to resort to taking medication. This is just a dark period I'm waiting to bypass.
