I have just discovered that I have lost my engagement ring and another ring, both of which have just disappeared from my jewellery case.

They are both of great sentimental value quite apart from being quite valuable.

To add to the pain of this the rings disappeared in circumstances that cannot rule out the possible involvement of a very dear friend.

He is the only person who was anywhere near them at the time they went missing and he has been suffering some financial hardship recently.

The rings were in my jewellery box, there is no security tape record of anyone entering the apartmetn but me and my friend, I have not been broken into and the rings just vanished from their usual place.

I've turned the inside out and meticulously scoured every nook PLUS the garbage and all the other places.

I'm such a creature of habit that I clearly remember putting the rings in the jewellery case. Also I can't imagine its a robbery as the thieves left behind quite a few valuables in the same jewel case.

I'm stumped.

I have asked the iching for guidance and received the following answers which given my somewhat agitated state I may not be interpreting correctly:

Question 1: Is Mxxx involved in the disappearance of my rings?

Answer: 15.1.3 > 24

Question 2: What has happened to my rings?

Answer: 54.6 > 38

These answers seem quite cryptic to me and would greatly appreciate any help.

Hi again Missclaudia,
and sorry for what happened to you.

Starting with Q2:
I think the "empty basket" is a direct reference to your jewellery case, and, I suspect, also a hint to your previous involvment with your friend.
Trying to explain (apologize for my english), 54.6 is related to an empty, sterile relationship, the loss could be, in this case, a financial one (the rings).
However this does not mean your friend is the thief, or that there is a thief.
There is also the relating hexagram, 38, the mirror world, letting the intuition go wild, have you looked for your rings nearby some mirror ?

Or in the bathroom ? (water?)

I ask this because the interpretation of 15.1.3 is indeed difficult (for me at last) since it could be a straight "yes", in LiSe's site the title (?) of 15 is "give and take", which could be directly related to theft and the general meaning of 15 is authenticity, honesty.
The text of 15 says (Bradford's translation)
The noble young one, accordingly, diminishes the excessive (and) adds to the deficient.
Should I trust my intuition I'd say "the noble one" is your friend in financial troubles, who "diminishes the excessive" taking away your rings.
Anyway 15 is ambiguous, since could also be interpreted as for him being honest and trustworthy.
24 could refer to repentance, returning on the way, should your friend be the thief.

Hope for the best, very sorry for this situation.
I'll post again time permitting (at home I have other translations/commentaries)
Hugs
Paolo

Some other thougths about 15.1.3

Using Karcher's terminology, Energy operator is 101 000, hex 36, brightness obscured.
Context operator 010 111 hex 6, contention, litigation.

So the energy pushing your (ex) friend could have been a momentary lack of mental brightness, i.e. to act as thief you surely are not on the "Way".

The litigation, conflict, could be an internal conflict, or an actual one, between you and your friend.

Based on Yi's answers, I doubt your friend stole your rings, but I would simply ask him/her without being confrontative. My guess is that the rings are in an unexpected place. Have you checked the bedding, the laundry basket or the washing machine?

I'd echo Candid's interpretation and advice. It seems to me that what you drew moves along these lines:

Question 1: Is Mxxx involved in the disappearance of my rings?

Answer: 15.1.3 > 24 No, humble that kind of thinking and get back to where you belong.

Question 2: What has happened to my rings?

Answer: 54.6 > 38 You're going through an empty ritual here that's polarizing you and your friend.

Very interesting answer: humility > returning.

Could be advice to discuss the issue with your friend - give your all in an effort to persuade them to return the ring to you and it will be successful.

Hope I'm wrong. (Since being right means your friend did steal it the first place).

Thank you all for your responses. I really have no way of knowing what happened to the rings and as the iching's response is somewhat ambiguous I'll choose to believe that the rings are merely lost.

I've gone through ever single inch of my apartment so if they're hiding here then they must have gone to the Bin Laden Academy of Hiding in Plain Sight!

Thank you so much for all the assistance. Now to do deal with the insurance company <shudder>

A couple of people here have suggested talking to your friend about it. Why not?

I did ask my friend and by the look of total shock on his face I wonder whether he had anything to do with the disappearance of the rings.

He seemed genuinely upset that my rings had disappeared and was asking lots of questions about where I'd looked and so on.

I said "There's no chance you picked them up and put them somewhere safe, is there" and he said "Noooo", I'd never touch your rings".

His response seemed genuine to me.

Dear Missclaudia

It's very interesting to read everyone's remarks on this one, because I have a hard time grasping the meaning as well. One thing that struck me as odd in response to your second question, is that line 6 of 54 talks about wedding rituals (in the Wilhelm explanation). I wonder if you should take the question of "what happened to your rings" more broadly. Just a thought.

I recently lost my bank debit card and asked the IC a series of questions:

Will I find my debit card:
25.2 and 5 to 38.

Did I throw it away?
14.1 to 50

Is it here in the house?
49.3 to 17

Does someone else have it?
17 no change

Should I cancel the card at the Bank?
6 no change.

I didn't take any action based on 25.5 "use no medicine" and 6, a conflict with cancelling the card. Since I am moving, it would have meant that I wouldn't have a card to use on the trip.

I found the card yesterday as I was packing in the shirt pocket of a shirt that I had forgotten that I had worn recently.

Just thought I'd update all of you who were so kind to respond that my rings did not materialise and that the insurance company will pay the claim.

I'd rather have my rings back but at least I had no probs with the claim. I now have to go ring shopping to replace them which will be a bit sad.
