What is the effect of doing a reading? Do I Ching readings give us a head's up so we can make adjustments and thus change outcomes? Or do the messages from the oracle describe unalterable fate? I expect we've all had both experiences - sometimes getting insights that allowed us to avert disasters and other times finding no amount of prior knowledge can make a difference and sometimes getting predictions that just don't materialize at all.
I asked the I Ching about this phenomenon and received 58.1.6 - 6. Joyful conversation leading to Conflict. I'm seeing this as an interesting way of expressing the idea that some things can be changed and others cannot. Nothing is set in stone. Like, whatever you're wanting, 58. talk it over with Yi - 6.Sometimes he'll agree and say yes and sometimes he'll refuse and say no.

Why use 'he' for yi?

The name and function of the book do present a paradox, here is this 3000 year old book that can be applied to current situations, not much changes.

I see readings as showing the both the fundamental texture of the state of things you are asking for guidance to change or shift and advice on the change. Sometimes the change is simply to let ho of thr doibt or anxiety that brought me to cast, nothing else about the situation needs or can be changed as such.

From a state of conflict one is drawn into joyful exchange, it really is never a pain to ask yi is it, like the perfect parent it will always answer and guide.

Conflict is a state of tense change, I like thinking about the rope in tug of war to describe the tension. There are more than two possibilities for the outcome of a tug of war.

58.1.6 - enter into joyful conversation and exit. Like a wormhole, a kind of reality bending doorway that makes for a shortcut.

Line 1 - when you first come to consult the conversation is harmonious

Line 6 - If you don't stop it won't work

It can lead you out of conflict then right back into it. I think I've read a few posts in here by others before on the phenomenon, when you cast too many times you obliterate the opportunity to engage in the weaving or the warp and the weft.

6

Getting advice at the beginning is helpful, but not at the end. To create change something must change in the living consciousness.

Do you know rosada I was just looking up old posts for a reading of mine and I came across this one of yours from feb 2016

What effect does doing a reading have? 14.1.2.3 - 35

!:)

It's also a good read and train of thought, particularly about line 3 and you posted

That would make sense - that even the I Ching can't help you get something not in your destiny.
Oooh, I just checked out WikiWing and read that 14.3 can mean being given insights, being able to see beyond what an ordinary person might be able to see.
Cool.

yi is pretty cool. I think for me that is what I value about it, it can act like a neural network I don't yet have.

I wanted to add to what I've already said, change has its own vocabulary doesn't it, if you only speak river then only rapids or drought look like change to you, when in need of speaking rock or galaxy you might not notice change at all.

Hi Rosada

Happy New Year, I think the lines in general are advising on taking the advice, I guess as you become more experienced you take the readings as the cards fall or how the cookie cumbles. However I remember when I first joined the forum I would sometimes try and twist things to suit my agenda.

Even now I need to be careful, so in general I think the reading is saying take my advice and you will be better for it

Steve
