One of my sons has an exam in may to enter a music school where i think it would be great if he got a place.
I want that what is best for him to happen, whatever it is.
I would like to know what is going to happen, i would like to ask the Yi for help but i'm not sure how to phrase the question...
Any help you can give me?

I know i shouldn't ask yes or no questions, so i can't ask "how is it going to go"....

Thanks in advance.

You could ask What is the potential my son will enter this music school

Show me the success my son has in his exam

Anyway something like that - Liss

You could also ask: how happy will my son be studying at this school?

Or

How correct (or auspicious) is for him to follow this path?

These two questions might help you to know if it is really the best option for him to choose that school and if he's really going to be happy there, questions that are as important as knowing whether or not he'll pass.

All the best.

I asked "what is going to be the outcome of my son's exam?"
And the answer was 45 unchanged.
I don't know well what to make of it...
It sounds pretty positive...

I was thinking, after reading about it, that the great man could be his teacher...

Thank you for the feedback on the outcome after your reading.

I am glad you are happy.

Does he know what he will do instead?

Hi deusa

From a text-based interpretation, sometimes is hard to decipher a yes/no question; granted. In current main culture in the West there is a prejudice against predictions, fortune-teller, etc. So, it's politically incorrect to ask yes/no questions; granted.

But please, don't take that advise of not doing yes/no questions dogmatically. Sometimes a yes/no question is really what you want to ask and what you need to be answered. Questions about "insight" (like what do I need to know..., what is the value of..., etc) are great; but sometimes it seems to me like they are used just as an indirect way to really ask yes/no question because supposedly we shouldn't do yes/no questions.

In my experience, Yijing is great to provide insightful answers and it is also great to provide predictve answers; including yes/no questions as "will my son pass this exam?" or "will my son be admitted in X school?"

Wish you all the best

Oh... I answered before reading the whole thread. I saw your 45 answer after my comment.

deusa, maybe hexagram 45 is telling you that your son is gathering within a community,-- and being recognized by the 'great man' or teachers -- that will prosper is musical talents. You said he almost got in, and you are happy about the outcome , so possibly some real good has come out of this for your son in that regard.

basically what happened was:
1- because of that exam he met his teacher who still is his teacher and progresses very well in his instrument.
2- because he didn't get in, he after all went to another school, a better one, where he is very happy.

It's nice to read about the development of a situation after such a long time. I sometimes read threads and wonder what the outcome was... Thank you for the update!

P.S and congratulations that everything worked out. Sounds great :)
