Experiencing the YiJing

Years ago there was a Human Growth and Potential seminar based upon the YiJing. Participants spend one day meditating upon each of the trigrams, in a physical environment that reflected the trigram. Fire was a volcano in the afternoon, and a braaivleis at the beach in the evening. Wind was either skydiving or going out on a cat. Mountain was climbing up and then down a fairly steep mountain. Etc. Due to the costs, I didn't take that seminar.

Whilst holodecks don't currently exist, some of their effects can be replicated in a warm room with a good AV system. _Sunrise Earth_ is one of the few series that demonstrates this experiential effect. (_The Yule Log_ is another example.)

Is anybody aware of suitable videos, that could be used as part of a human growth and potential seminar based upon the YiJing?

Following up on my previous post.

What I'm looking for is not only videos, but also audio CDs, such as the _Echoes of Nature_ 10 CD set. Also scents, and the like.

In short, components that can be put together, so that, regardless of where one is, assuming a good AV system, and a few other minor details, one can construct the "illusion" that one is within the specific hexagram, trigram, bigram, or line.

Whilst I'm not sure I want to go to the extent of spraying a person with water --- which would be in keeping with a couple of individual lines --- I'm not adverse to suggestions along those lines.

Howdy Jonathan,

Sounds interesting. What level of production are you looking at in terms venue size and location? Indoor or outdoor?

First, I would investigate cinematic resourses, libraries and such. Possibly an eager student or two may volunteer to help. Just thoughts. Then, same with drama related resources, including clubs and students.

I think the IC is very much like a holodeck. Beam me up, Scottie.

Hm... you might want to avoid 43.3 for your first session (dousing with a bucket of muddy water?)

I don't know any films... but I think the cheapest and simplest way to get a physical, tangible sensation of the hexagrams is to go outdoors and see what shows up. Volcanoes and sky-diving have their own attractions, but wouldn't you encounter most of the hexagrams in a week's attentive walking round your local town? (You may not find a tree on a mountain, but you might well find a buddleia growing out of a wall.)

Or... sit your people down, play them music, maybe vapourise some carefully-chosen essential oils, and take them into a guided visualisation/meditation for a hexagram - or trigram - or line. Who needs skydiving when you can fly?
