Hi there,

Evaluating the free trial (Mac) at the moment with my eye on a particularly important wish-list feature: exporting I Ching entries/history/data to XML/XLS etc. Is there such a function in Resonance Journal that I'm missing, or are there plans to add such a feature?

Found Resonance Journal after being disappointed to find there's only a Windows build for the "I Ching Readings Journal" application – which appears to have an excellent, multi-function data utilities/export capability: https://sites.google.com/site/ichingsoftware/home/using-the-i-ching-readings-j/data-utilities

I have a large backlog of I Ching readings I want to archive in a database then tabulate/display in interesting ways and getting a data dump from a journalling app is a must.

Thanks!

You can export to XLS. Entries menu > Export Entries to MS Excel.

I do wish Justin hadn't forgotten the tags, though.

If you really want it in xml, can your spreadsheet software do that, as a second step?

Thanks, Justin.

I've remembered another couple of things: anything put into entries from the Insert menu is lost when exported (images and links).

I certainly imagine actual images and working links can't be saved, but could there be hints? E.g. for images, a filename in plain text in the spot where the picture was ("image01.jpg")? The url in text for hyperlinks? Entries - maybe title and date? (Date's needed since multiple entries can have the same title.)

Maybe something to set them off, like

That would also make them searchable - someone could locate all entries with images by searching the spreadsheet for [image:

If these things are possible, it's undoubtedly too much for the next update. I guess my personal priority would be tags.

Thanks again :)
