Background: I am struggling somewhat financially (medical bills to pay off--I live in the U.S., and we are not known for affordable health care); I have a decent job now, but it will be winding down over the next year as the owner of the business retires. Meanwhile, I have a son to support until he is out of law school. I often come up with business ideas and have gotten good feedback from others regarding them. I have one now that I believe is among the better ideas I've had, and I felt strongly that I should consult the I Ching. (I also felt that the Creator was on my side and quite possibly, the inspiration for this particular idea.) My question was "Proceed with new biz idea?"--what I had in mind was the wisdom of proceeding with my new business idea. I was delighted with the answers I received. 48.2 = "The Well," and in the description of the hexagram, there is an allusion to water. Actually, my product is a liquid, and a key ingredient will be water. And I get it, persistence will be one of the two key things, "The real question is whether you have the means to reach into such depths, and a steady hand to bring the water up into the real world without loss." The second hexagram, "limping" had me laughing, because I've injured my left knee, it's swollen now, and I was limping on my walk as I thought about my new business idea today. One of the questions asked of me was, "Where can you get help?" This is the second key to success, I believe. When I took breaks from work today, I thought specifically about people I have yet to meet, and who often spend time or live in California. Today, I am in the northeast, tomorrow in the early a.m., I am flying to the San Francisco Bay Area, the southeast. Well, according to hexagram 39,"'Limping. Fruitful in the southwest,Not fruitful in the northeast.Fruitful to see great people.Constancy, good fortune."What a coincidence, right? Blessings to all, and thank you for any comments!shieldmaiden

Thanks for the question: questions are often better than answers, right? They can lead to active learning. I was delighted because there were several coincidences related to my business idea as well as what is physically going on with me now (water and limping)--it seemed as though the Oracle was communicating (and maybe, teasing) me. But maybe I took things too literally. Metaphorically, and on a less delighted note, today I am thinking the "limping" is also how I feel sometimes about my current career. For various reasons, I am not emotionally captivated by my career, nor am I satisfied with how my employer manages me and my time, or makes use of my skills. Maybe more than limping, I feel like my wings are clipped, and therefore, I am not reaching the "water in the well."

I noticed that you are reading 48 and 39, I didn't see you mention the line 2 you received. (It takes priority as text to focus on here.)

From wikiwing,
Line 2: 'In the well's depths they shoot fish. The jug cracked and leaking.'

You may receive fewer replies because your initial post is one dense lump of text which is hard to read. This will be because you cannot format, it's a fault.

Please use the form below to report the fault. If people do not report it Hilary cannot go about correcting it. Thank you.

Hi shieldmaden,

what happened? Did you implement your idea?

I haven’t been well these last few days and have received this line which makes me think I am wasting my body resources.

Anything similar you can recall?

Shield Maiden hasn't come to this forum since August 2018 so this thread isn't current and she isn't in need of immediate help with formatting.

She may come back who knows.

Meantime to avoid wasting your time responding to people who aren't here because of necro posting I can only suggest you look at the date of the thread before answering. Unfortunately it is now necessary.

Normally there would be no reason to check since one can assume threads at the top are current. Indeed I think we should be able to assume that but unfortunately we can't

i know this might be considered off-topic, but i mean it more as an open and more general wondering, as it happened to me many times to find somebody else's very old reading and felt really tempted to reply and simply share with others here just how strikingly similar either the situation or my question and I Ching's answer was to the one i found in some "necro" posts.

i never did, as the forum rules seem to be quite strict on what shared reading section is meant for and i never mean to cause havoc.

nevertheless, i personally find it quite useful to see other people's experiences under a specific reading, especially if the experience or question asked is very close to the one from the original post? it might be just me and i understand digging up old threads might not be appreciated, especially since they draw attention away from the recent ones or the "live" ones that are definitely in more immediate need of answering.

maybe there could be some way of archiving old "shared readings" or moving them to a different section where people could add extra value by not just initial interpretation but also sharing their own reading in case it's very similar and the hexagrams with their changing lines are exactly the same?

We have an archive everyone can continually add to called WikiWing here it is click here

So if someone has an experience they go and add it there. As for answering old threads I don't see the point myself, why not start a new one, but there's no rule against it so you can if you want to.

I personally would only say to show consideration by announcing first that it is an old thread and you want to add to it such as "This is an old thread I know but I wanted to say...….." that way at least people don't spend an hour answering the original querent who hasn't been here since 2006. Again that's not a rule only a suggestion.

Yesterday David spent time answering two old threads because he thought they were current. I don't think the onus is on him or anyone else to check the date as we naturally expect new threads in SR to be at the top, there's no reason anyone would check the date.

Anyway your suggestion is for @hilary; to consider nothing to do with me

Currently my tip is check all the dates of threads you answer if you prefer not to be spending time and energy on someone who hasn't been here for 10 years. If you want to talk to someone who hasn't been here for 10 years of course it's up to you but I think it's good to have the choice.

Also before asking how something played out on an old thread it's worth checking if the person is still here, if it says 'guest' they aren't, or looking at their profile which shows when they were last here. If they haven't been here for a decade chances are you are less likely to hear from them.
