Greetings,

I decided to post two readings because they both still perplex me and possibly one or the other may help someone in the future since I am including the outcome of my queries.

Background: several weeks ago one of my beloved cats seemed to catch an insect (I think) and then began foaming at the mouth. Foam spilled over his chin, all down his chest, and onto my bed. Horrified, I ran to him and he ran from me. After a few minutes he seemed fine. My gut instinct told me he would be OK but, heart racing, I consulted the I Ching.

What will be effect of my taking kitty to vet right now?: 8.4.6>12

8.4 seemed to suggest that I should indeed take kitty to vet (or someone beyond my immediate circle).
Blofeld: He co-operates with people beyond his immediate circle. Righteous persistence will bring good fortune.

What will be effect of my not taking kitty to vet right now? 31 Unchanging
Wilhelm: "The image counsels that the mind should be kept humble and free, so that it may remain receptive to good advice."

Maybe I Ching was simply pointing out that I was too upset to take whatever good advice was proffered..

Result: In any case, I took kitty to emergency clinic (these type of incidents always seem to happen after normal business hours) where, thankfully, staff vet found all vital signs normal, saw no immediate cause for alarm. She administered subcutaneous fluids, anti-nausea medication, told me to feed him at 1am to see how he tolerated food. As it turned out he ate hungrily and has not exhibited any further signs of illness since that alarming night. It now appears that hospital visit was unnecessary.

Earlier this evening I revisited those readings and they still make little sense to me. Interestingly, I can find almost no other readings for 8.4.6>12 in the archives. Would be grateful to hear if anyone has any insight into it or 31 UC. Thanks so much!

Hi

8zhi12 Using the Wen Wang Gua method to read the hexagrams, there is neither urgency nor harm to take the kitten to vet. There is in fact some minor problem (the symbol for worries and illness is present in the same line representig the Self and it is wood Mao), but the kitten is able to cure itself (the line with the symbol for pets in hex 8 is metal shen; it is active and metal controls wood, so the kitten is active and effective to fight the illness); vet's intervention would be stressful for kitten but of very little effect (the symbol for doctor in hex 8 is fire Si, it is inactive, fire reduces wood but controls metal, so the doctor is of little help but has an stressful effect on kitten). You worry about your kitten (the line of the self, representing you, has the symbol for illness and worries) but everything will be ok (hex 12 in this system is a 'total combination' configuration, for medical questions it's a sign for recovering from illness).

Hex 31, using Wen Wang Gua: everything would be calm and ok. Kitten is strong (the symbol for pets in 31 is water Hai; water in a metal month like August or September is very strong) and the illness / worries are imprisoned (the symbol for illness / worries in hex 31 is fire Wu; fire in a metal month is imprisoned, meaning is completely uneffective). Since water (kitten) controls fire (illness/worries), the kitten will be perfectly fine even if not taken to the vet.

Wow! Thank you so much, Sixth Relative. Your interpretation is completely amazing. Kitty was indeed stressed at the vet. Have to go to an appointment but will study this further when I return. Thank you again for a superbly insightful interpretation. I really appreciate your taking the time.
