Hi, I have a dog that we are fostering. She is a 2 to 3 year rescue, we know very little about her. She is very loving but can be nippy. We found her a great home in a mansion style retirement home (for the ultra rich) They love her and spent almost 30 K on her medical issues (lucky dog) She was now fully healthy and doing great but then suddenly starting nipping people and became dog aggresive (ish)

This is a potential liability so I took her home to see how I can address it so she can go back to the mansion.

At home, she is great with everyone but has nipped once or twice at my 5 year old son. It's definitly not biting and I really don't think she is vicious or can be vicious but am concerned. She is getting professional on on one help / classes and socialization, desensitization.

How can I help her?
Will she be able to go back? If not, should I keep her?, If yes, is she a danger to my kids?

I see 51 unchanging as describing the unexpected nipping and perhaps you needing to stay calm but unfortunately the fact it is unchanging suggests this is an ongoing problem that may not change.
As an aside, I know some dogs have responded well to tranquilizers and to bach flower essences.

I think the way you can help Polly is to Shake things up a bit....do things differently.
Give her a Shock of some sort ‘Shock brings success’..... shrieking and yelling. Let her know what she does is not acceptable LOUDLY.

I've heard that if you make fierce barking sounds at your dog it will quit barking so maybe this applies to the nipping.

Thank you for the advice. I did the Daddy bear fussing when as she did it again since. I want to know if she will harm my kids.

Have you considered seeking advice from a dog training forum?

In the past I have stopped cats turning around with vicious paw swipes by giving them an immediate quick light tap after their swipe and then showing them the blood they have drawn. They look very ashamed afterwards. I have done this with two cats now and in both cases they stopped immediately and for good. I do emphasise light tap (back of the fingers no force) it is the action, not causing them any hurt which communicates that it is unacceptable. No shouting needed.

Good luck
