Dear Yi-companions

My sister and her boyfriend have been sharing a house of 30 m2 for 4 years now, and only due to their great love it is that they have not killed each other yet. They are in desperate need for a new house, but this is so very hard in the city we live in. They asked I Ching what strategy they should follow to find a house that "fits" them. They got: 9, lines 4 and 6 moving. Resulting in 43.

I need your help on this, as I am biased. I would love to give them good news. My understanding of 9 is that it is about a time of frustrations, where no great things can be achieved. One author talks about a place where you can stay a little while but not a long time (Boeringer). Line 4 to me means being sincere and "speaking ones own truth", which will cause fear but is the right thing to do. I think that in line 6, the frustrating time has ended and success is achieved. But it may be smaller than wished for, and one has to be careful to move along instead of rushing and taking pride.
Line 4 might relate to an estate-agent they're now in contact with; he needs a certain document that they have an option to "play it straight" or do something that is not illegal, but feels a bit immoral to them (I cannot reveal more).
At seeing 43, my sister happily shouted out: a break-through!!! I wasn't quite so sure, as I see the break-through as defeating the bad influences rather than gaining good ones. But then, it's her reading so her intuition should be considered, right?

What do you think? I'd be very happy to hear your comments, also when they're pessimistic.

Thanks, love Femke

Hi Femke

Just in case the comment could be useful

Strategy:
a) Be aware that is not time yet to achieve that goal (general sense of hex 9)
b) Don't undertake a big shot now, but small preparatory measures (general sense of hex 9 and line 6) If doing something that "feels a bit inmoral" is like a big shot.. don't do it.
c) Sucess would be achieve "bit by bit" (judgment of hex 9)
d) In consecuence, they should have strong determination, patience and adaptation (trigram's recomendation of hex 9)

Best wishes

Hi Jesed

Thanks for your input. It's not a happy message for them, but it sounds truthful.
I have a few questions: you state that line 6 means is about small preparatory measures. But to me it sounds like succes is achieved (the period of 9 has ended), only if you're not careful you let it slip away by overreacting. I derive to this because of the phrase: "it comes to rain, it comes to rest" (my translation of Dutch Wilhelm, probably not the same as the official one). Rain sounds like succes (it also says success in the first phrase of the explanation). Do you think that success in this context only means that they come to peace with the fact that the have to be patient? Or could it be that there's a chance of succes in the form of a house? I'd like to hear your opinion.
Another question of mine is: they are doubting if they should start trying in an all together different city. This is a completely new option. Could this be coherent with 43? Again I"m biased, I'd like them to stay here.

Thanks!!!

Hi Femke,

I should say that they should look to the details... Hexagram 9 is about details, and perhaps, because yes, looking in Amsterdam to a good and payfull house is more worse then looking for a joint, I think that the Yi is actually refering to the house they are already in... Perhaps there could be made some adjustments so the house is larger... Even white paint makes a room look larger then painting it black or so... Anyway, to me it looks like it's in the detail...

When you look to the lines, and as I talked about it on other posts recently, I like to work less with the line texts and more with the form of the hexagrams and lines you receive, but hee, that's these days... who knows what I'll do tommorow :-D? At least lines 4 & 6, as YANG lines, make hexagram 35... Progress, but also, as Boering calles it in his "Game of Change" (a dutch I Ching card game): "Discovery" there is something about the house they are in already! They haven't found all the posibilities yet! They do not have to go... Just let them LOOK realy good...

Hexagram 43 is called a breaktrough.. perhaps a wall comming down... (hint...)

I hope I make some sense what so ever..., and see you at a next meeting...

Huggie,
Franky

Hi Frank

Thanks! Those are really interesting remarks. Associating on your input, I suddenly remembered one of the reasons they want to move desperately is one particular neighbour who has become more of a pain than ever lately. Maybe 43 is going to swipe him out?
I'll share your thoughts with them!

See you at a meeting soon, I hope (all of you who can attend a meeting in the Netherlands, for that matter)

HI

Just in case the comment could be useful:

About line 6 in hex 9:
a) Is position 6: points to an excess or the end of a time
b) Is yang line in yinn position. Points to an excess of energy
c) Doesn't have a correpondence relationship with line 3 (so, is not listen the advice of stop in line 3)
d) Doesn't have a solidarity relationship with line 5 (so, is not listen the advice of remain loyally to it's neighbor)
e) An excess of yang energy in a Time when the power is in the yinn energy is not good; is acting against the Tao
f) Thus: try to achieve more than what is already achieved is dangerous ("The moon is nearly full. If the superior man persists, misfortune comes")
g) If one changes only the 6 line, one can find the reason of the advice: line 6 of hex 5. "Honor" the reality where you are inmerse (you are in the pit) and you'll find an unexpected good fortune.

Best wishes

Hello everybody

As I've found it really great when people have been giving follow-ups lately, here's mine to this story.
After some more sorrowfull frustrating searching for housing in the city they lived in, my sister happened to run into an advertisement on a house in another city that looked just wonderful. She happened to be the first one (of many!) to react, and they have taken it. It's the basic floor to a monumental house, very beautiful and very big. I'm happy for them but we also miss each other a bit!
As to the hexagrams, this makes a lot of sense regarding the corresponding hex, 43, doesn't it? Breaking away from this dirty crowded old city ..

And as to the other hex, 9, I think it indicated that not only their house but the whole city was a place they could stay only temporary.

Thank you for the input. Love, Femke
