hi everyone

it's a lazy, rainy Saturday morning where I'm sitting and I thought I'd drop something in the pot :)

Quite some time ago (the snapshot shows sunny rays and blue seas) I asked Yi to give me a sentence to carry with me on my research tracks . . something like an elder's advice, to remember if I felt like giving up or stopped paying attention

Yi said: 34.2,4 relating 36

. . now, I have given this some thought over time and I have an impression of this sentence. I keep in mind that a sentence cannot carry all the details of two hexagrams and two lines, so the sentence occasionally changes

What would be your take on it? I'd love to see which of all the subtleties involved would work more for others and how many sentences we can make out of it . . You can make it as short or long as you want, but it has to stand on it's own to be carried like a pebble in a pocket . .

actually the whole thing will be 2 sentences, starting with "Remember my child . . .

any takers??

"With great power comes great responsibility" is a good one.

While the reading is filled with power, beauty remains inside the earth. So, here's my entry:

Power can be expressed through beauty as well as brawn.

It's kind of ironic when you see who holds the real power in that picture.

I removed the image as the replacement was too big. See link below.

Hi Rodaki
As Meng has borrowed from Spiderman, I'll borrow from Desiderata:
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant, for they too have their story.

Meng - the picture didn't come up for me...Is the problem at my end?

ah, these 2 sentences are both great, thank you Bruce, Mike!

-1st image came out a bit fuzzy for me too . . blame it on 36 :)
the second is very much reminiscent of Andromeda's myth . .

Indeed it is. :bows:

Now Time's Andromeda on this rock rude,
With not her either beauty's equal or
Her injury's, looks off by both horns of shore,
Her flower, her piece of being, doomed dragon's food.
Time past she has been attempted and pursued
By many blows and banes; but now hears roar
A wilder beast from West than all were, more
Rife in her wrongs, more lawless, and more lewd.
— Gerard Manley Hopkins

Dora, do you find any connection between the myth or image and your reading?

"Remember: Only spring forward to do the thing which you are meant to and the doors will open to you; keep your own council, my child, and do not be swayed by the opinions of men."

beautiful! I love the idea of the spring and not swaying :)
. . it is this balance between tensions that I found really impressing . . it's like there's this big gap between 1st and 2nd hexagram and I thought it would be interesting to see how may ways there are to bridge those two . .

as far as the Andromeda myth goes, I'd have to say no . . at least not in the terms of the particular myth, mostly cause I saw the answer as very literal advice, along the lines of 'remember, dimness will come over you if you lose contact with what moved you in this in the first place' . .

but then, a rescue scene could be implied in that too, only not in terms of a lady in distress waiting for the hero :)

I'm mostly seeing 36 as what is to be avoided here but I've noticed how readings transform in time (I mean the same reading for the same q., not only the same reading for different questions), and work like constantly meaning-generating units . .
I mean, the same answer can be read in many different ways, but what I find surprising is that, on some occasions, a reading's meaning will change throughout time, embodying -at some point or another- all sentences that stay true to its basic meanings, even if they appear contradictory
. . which of course leaves open the question of which meaning applies best each time :)confused:) and if people would like to comment on that I'd love to read your views!

here though I thought it would be interesting to gather all kinds of different sentences and see how these could come to apply to the question at some point or another . .

Hi Dora,
I see it mostly like you describe but slightly different. I think Yi’s magic stops (in a way) the time we got the answer One specific reading a hexagram , some lines a relating hexagram. That’s all ! then its our turn to continue this magic. And its all those question marks :confused:above, :confused:around, i:confused:nside our mind and or heart that produce many meanings. Its not the specific answer it’s morphing but I feel its us, our thousand faces.

Its like when something happens in our live and when it occurs we see it in a A way, later in a B after some months in a C and maybe in a year or more in an XYZ way. It’s a continuous hex63-hex 64 thing, the way I see it. Other experiences come and cling with that specific event and they change it. But do they really change it or we look at it with different eyes. Don’t know how this happens but what we use to believe its not that its something else different. Same event different views, same reading different meanings.

If I kepted notes about my reading , I’m pretty sure that many of them would be unanswered. Lots of questions and empty spaces next to them. In the past it was frustrating and some times I asked myself. Why to use Yi if I can get no answer? But I guess the questions itself , even unanswered are what I was looking for and hopefully one day I’ll understand.

Hi Maria
I think we're saying the same thing . . or I can't see the difference?
Of course I didn't mean that the reading itself transforms, it is the interpretation, its application to life that changes . . and I love the way you describe it, as our eyes changing . . yes, it feels like that! Even more so when other people turn their eyes on a reading, each one will see sth else in it and this is what I wanted to do, in a way see thru others' eyes, not being after THE answer, but seeing the changes of a single Yi reading, this magic you talked about :)

Maybe the choice of the “slightly different” words were not very successful. They confuse me too, lol. Reading again my post, it looks more like “thinking aloud “ than saying something different from what you said. :)

I like too to see the lines through different eyes and I love every 58 contact here and it concerns me more than I can admit the things that don’t leave much space for such exchanges , but this is another subject. Sometimes , when I read some other’s experiences, I recall stories of mine which were forgotten. But this exchange of course has it limits and lately, those limits are clearer in my mind and my responsibility towards my reading becomes greater. Its like you invite people in your home to discuss something that concerns you and then the quests’ leave and you are alone with your self and this is what Yi is for me. This is the time the real magic begins, me thinks.

hey :)

uhmmm . . just finished my walk in 'shared readings' . . hadn't been there for quite a while -no headspace for that these days I'm afraid (btw, glad to see Trojan back :)). .- and now I think I understand better your previous post Maria as well as this one . .

I'm 100% with you on the sense of personal responsibility that carries every answer we get from Yi . . it is always a very intimate thought process that leads us to our answers . . even more so because Yi can be quite an idiosyncratic character . . I cannot count the times when Yi has been feeding me back my worst fears, only to reply with some sort of 15 answer when I realize and protest about it (this has happened so many times it gets seriously spooky :bag:). And I've noticed that the more I need a clear answer, the more Yi will most probably leave me more perplexed than what I begun, especially in questions that concern important decisions . . .

Having said that, I think that every answer does exist beyond this intimate relation as a space of meaning that extends along specific terms and notions . . and I guess this is what I was looking for, inviting people to share their own sentences about this reading . . say a reading class on exploring a specific divination, a case study on how the various elements of a reading can interact in producing a sentence . . again -I'm repeating myself, i know- not to get the/my answer, but just to practice in unfolding the ways of a reading, to understand it better as a flexible but still eloquent cluster of ideas . .

that might feel like watering down the answer, dissolving one's personal ties to it, thus losing the intimate grasp we might be looking for, but such letting go can offer the clarity of focus missed in our effort to just 'get it'-and in the meantime offer a lesson on how to read answers in general . . and that's one of the things that make Clarity great for me

. . sometimes I think that, most often than not, Yi will provide a landscape, a room to get in and think about the questions we need to answer for ourselves rather than answering them for us . . how do we recognize the elements of this space and situate ourselves within them, that I felt was an interesting way to go about in exploring divination . . maybe the timing was not the best for this kind of exercise though . .
