Health and 11 transforming to 18?

Question asked: what is the best way to get through this health crisis?

Answer: 11 transforming to 18.

Our interpretation is that there is great potential in peace and enlightenment if the "poison" can be removed from the ill person - both literally and metaphorically. That peace and growth can be obtained, but only if all the rotted material is removed first.

We were quite shocked to receive a reading quite so literal and were curious if the I Ching is stating there might be a physical cause to this illness. It would certainly be consistent with what is happening. Or is it simply a metaphor for what?s happening?

Wow, what a coincidence. I just posted something on the divination discussion about 11 lines 1 and 6 changing to 18! I was mainly focused on ll.6 because that line has always bothered me in the past. Perhaps if it pertains to your health, you have allowed one thing to cause damage to something else? (the wall caving into the moat). It suggests a remissness on your part that now you can't do too much about. But nevertheless, 18 is positive answer letting you know that energetic effort on your part can repair what you have allowed to deteriorate.

First thing I'd look at is in 11: pure yang energy is below, while pure yin is above. This is a picture of perfect balance within the body.

The energy enters line 1 and travels clear up to line 6 (the head), where the energy collapses back upon itself.

To affect 18, I'd consider what is entering line 1 of 11. This could be in the way of physical, emotional, mental or spiritual diet.

11.1 - rooting out and pulling up a host of similar elements all together is fortunate.

11.6 - defenses are down; don't use force; just give instructions about what is required; carrying out what you think is right will involve distress

Hex 11 has this idea of pervading the whole system, like heaven communicating to earth, so I'm seeing some sort of holistic approach to this rather than attention to mere symptoms.

Also, the fact that this relates to Hex 18 suggests that the illness has its roots in long-standing conditions. Might that indicate that the way to deal with it is to change those long-standing conditions? 'Root them up' as it says in 11.1?

I was especially intrigued by the idea that this is a longstanding problem, left untended, that needed to be rooted out. It has been a vexxing illness, not responding to any traditional treatment.

But I hope you all agree that the potential for great healing and peace is held within this reading.
