Hello and happy new year to all members!

I have asked the iching some open questions about my health at the moment. I read through other threads to try and understand this. I just wanted some insight to see if I am getting this right.

First I asked what should I kwow about my health at the moment? I have had countless of little ailments, pains etc for the past 2 months and as some of them keep progressing I am more and more worried. I am going to see the doctor but I have a feeling that I will have to fight my corner before they take me seriously. In the meantime my mind is running wild.

So to the above question - I got hexagram 2 - receptive. In other threads I read that hex 2 unchaging means that things are indeed how we think them to be whether we view them as good or bad. So not good news because I am generally thinking about it as as something dangerous.

So I asked this second question to make sure: 'how grave are my health problems?' to which the iching answered 21,2.4.5. Is line 2 saying that I am being a bit too embroiled in the problem and can't really distinguish between my fears and what is going on in reality. Line 4 says that there is some important efforts to be made to work this out whether it is mentally - stop worrying so much about my health and returning to a more stable core; or physically - to take of my body more. Finally is line 5 referring to obvious steps that can be taken to resolve the issue?

I would appreciate any help you can give on this. Thanks for reading.

Hex 2 might also be taken as you need to follow advice and guidance of others. I'm no great fan of doctors, but if on giving them your symptoms and getting all the appropriate tests its really good news if they aren't too worried about it isn't it ? I would hope they can at least spot something 'dangerous'

Yes I think thats a pretty good interpretation. I think the answer does encourage you to get to the bottom of this with the utmost truth and sincerity (relating 61). The only way I see to do this is for you to be very clear to your doctor about what the symptoms are and have any tests if appropriate. If they find nothing wrong then you could explore alternative therapies etc but at least get the possibility of major illness out of the way first.

First I asked what should I know about my health at the moment?

Hex 2 is very positive, so going by that I would not see anything very worry with you at all.

You are worrying too much and that is contributing to your feelings of ill health and the belief that something serious is wrong with you.

It might also help to think about why you are experiencing these symptoms. For example, someone I know who is in the process of making enormous strides in her career path (to her complete joy), woke up one morning unable to walk. She did a lot of meditation and 'going within' and realised that it was all about being afraid of stepping into the new and unknown. Look at the metaphors I used there - 'strides' and 'stepping' - no wonder the 'dis-ease' manifested in her legs.

I have found it helpful, when unwell, to look at where the problem is and how it manifests. For example, a stiff neck - who or what is a pain in the neck? If you think about your symptoms and notice the language that you use about them, this could give you a clue. Louise Hay has an excellent book 'Heal Your Body', which covers all sorts of symptoms and what they can represent but of course you need to work it out for yourself.

I don't know how this fits with the I Ching, but you might like to ask it how Hex 2 fits with your health problems? I find it's often productive to ask a supplementary question.

Hope this helps

Hex 2 doesn't mean that 'things are indeed how we think them to be'. It means that we should energetically accept things as they are, which includes accepting proper guidance as well.

Hex 2 unchanging can mean that what is there is self evident I think - its open before you, an open book

I've never seen that meaning in Hex 2, cuz there's no mention of light or seeing or capturing truth. (However, it does say 'beforehand delusion' - my translation, at least - which implies that you see things more clearly after some time. But my take on that is that you see things more clearly AFTER you put yourself under discipline or guidance of someone you can trust, someone who knows the territory cuz they've been there before you.)

But my view of Hex 2 meaning 'acceptance' includes accepting your own state of mind. So if you're emotionally afflicted and you draw Hex 2, I'd read that as meaning you should accept both the outer circumstances you're in and your afflicted state of mind.

All this is very interesting. Thanks Contributors!

I'm completely confused and probably need to sit down and think about this. Lots of ideas come to mind. Not least that I am practising to be in the present and in my body through the breath and also to accept and welcome all my sides including my fears/downfalls...

So Hex 2 could relate to that work I have been doing. Though probably not that successfully since I am still in a muddle of fears and mind wrecking thoughts. I mean, I am practising regularly, but there is still a lot of work and effort.

My problem is double vision. A lot of your comments talk about seeing something more clearly so maybe they related somehow. There is a job for me of sitting down and medidating upon all this. There is definitely something I am not seeing but there are clues out there now! I'll also check the book out. It might give me some elements to think about.

Thank you very much as always!

xx Carole
