I asked the I Ching: "Should I drop one of my Advanced Highers and would this stop me getting into Harvard?"

It came back with: 1.4 changing too 9.

What does this mean????? Please help, I'm 17 and at a kind of crossroads in my life. I applied to Cambridge, nearly made it in but then lost out at the last minute. This kind of shattered me. I've been accepted for a UK University, but I wasn't sure whether to try and apply for some American ones (there is transfer scheme). I now have no 'DRIVE' left to strive and get 3 A's. I already have five in my highers! So I wanted to dop down to 2 Advanced Subjects...I just Don't know! help!!!!!

I know about freaking out, believe me, but that won't help you formulate a question or understand the answer. Trying to get centered and focused about this decision will really help. Your question was a complicated two-part question, and the answer just shows someone--someone with a huge creative potential--who is wavering or dancing back and forth at the edge at a crucial moment. That seems to describe you pretty well.

Once you feel more centered and calm, you might consider asking another question -- maybe something like "What can you tell me about my getting into Harvard?" or "What do I need to know about dropping this course?" and see what it says.

Thank You Knot. I just feel very lost at the moment - the I Ching has got me all taped up. I was bsically told by Cambridge: "You are up to the standard, but we have no space for you". This was of course gutting. I didn't know whether to relax and just accept my unconditional offer for Edinburgh Uni, or aim for higher things.
I asked again:

"What are my chances of getting into Harvard?"

The reply was: 28.6 (at top and beginning) which changed into 1 (Creative) again.

What does this mean?

I then asked: "Should I drop one Advanced Higher?"

I got: 36 with lines 3, 5 and 6 which changes into 42.1 (Increase).

Hi yoshua - You mailed, asking me to look at your question, but I am not very familiar with the procedures as you describe them. So I would be glad with some help from others here.
Hexagram 1 (all over theme) suggests qualities (for the great beginning of things); that mastery should come through ease (fucused, undeviating in being productive). This is however modified by line 4.
Line 4 states (Lynn): "This is truly a time when there are no constant rules for advancing or retreating". The suggestion is that: "He concentrates on preserving his commitments to the the public good, rather than for private ambitions" (turning doubts into reflective thoughts will prevent mistakes).
Hexagram 9 combines strength (below trigram) with compliance (above), indicating (again) civil virtues, rather than personal gain.
I sure hope that this explanation will throw some light on your problem, but given the complexity of the situation (for me) I hesitate to turn the suggestions into an advice that might set you on the wrong foot.

More and better help might come (see). Meanwhile, as knot suggested, you might present your situation a bit more simple?
