Hello,

I've been away ages and now I'm back under a different guise. I hope you'll give me a hand in interpreting the following haxagrams that have me confused and bewildered:

I'm (yet again) contemplating my messed up work situation, and have asked Yi

a) What sort of job should I be going after (because I'm constantly unsure whether to continue with types of work I've been doing for a while now or change completely in new and totally different direction)

Answer: 42.6
I have looked up for information in the archives but was not able to square the answers with my question. Any ideas?

Anyway, thinking I should give it another go, I apologised to Yi for asking yet again, and asked for a clarification, framing my question: What type of work will be both profitable and fulfilling for me?

Answer: 11.2.3

Again, research shows this answer to be pretty much the same as 42.6.

I don't understand? Can anyone help me shed some light on what Yi wants me to hear here?

Many Gratitudes

Hi p.Grace,

In terms of your fundamental questions, which I highlighted in bold, clearly the Yi suggests it is time to stop wondering about your work situation, get a copy of What Color Is YOUR Parachute and jump. Not necessarily quit your current job, the world economy is lousy; HOWEVER, figure out what YOU need in your work. Asking the Yi to do that work for you rather misses the point.

Yet, the specific oracles you received do a work of the spadework for your job introspection.
hex 42.6>> 3 The blessing of your current situation is exhausted, holding on to the dead situation is becoming dangerous for you. The way out of the current exhaustion and thus completing the transition to the Next is shown by Hex 3 where only the overall plan of organization (line 5) and the immediate application to the transition (line 1) is worth focus, all else is background. Hex 3 is the situation of the sculptor beginning to put chisel to the unformed block. Only the overall design intent and the actual interaction that makes things different is important.

Hex 11. 2.3 >>24 Or Dreamland >> Turning Point or Springs Back
Stop dreaming about what would be better and start figuring out what you want and need to do to make your way in the world.

Again, get the book, take the time to introspect and stop casting the Yi until you have some insight into your Self!

Good Luck.

The advice suggests that you look for something else, the change will be difficult at the beginning but with effort you can make a success of it.

precision grace,

Here are some passing reflections on your reading.

Your current work situation (42.6) is problematic because your heart is no longer in it. I would also surmise that the type of work you're doing requires the kind of genuine presence and giving that was once natural for you but is no longer the case. Because of this, you are not only denying your own truth but it is apparent to others that you don't really want to be doing what you are doing. It may even suggest that you are possibly hurting yourself or others in the process because you are understandably irritated and frustrated with the situation.

The insight offered to help you find the right work situation (11.2.3) suggests that by opening yourself to influences and people of all varieties and not just to your typical sphere of relationships you will be able to offer what it is that you have to give and receive what it is that you need. It will afford you the kind of balance you have been seeking. This won't be without it's ups and downs but it will ultimately allow you to return to yourself and renew the situation.

I thought it might be interesting to follow up on this thread, now 4 years past. I'm back doing those same things I have been fed up when I was looking for a new direction. In the meantime, I have explored other options, many other options, but nothing really worked out and I was also very ill for a long time and out of work. Now I am back on my feet, almost in the same place I was back then. Going in circles. Chasing my tail. The worst of it is that I don't think I've managed to get any useful insight into myself in all that time. Except that I am prone to get stuck in a slow wash cycle.. meh

Something like that. You have the ability to dramatize everything. Somewhere there is a market for it.

Uh oh

What are my chances of actually writing for TV?

24.4.6 > 21

lines seem contradictory. What am I not seeing?

24 Pause and think it over.
21 You'll need to master the discipline of the field.

24.4 Others can help you part way, but eventually you must go it on your own.
24.6 The window of opportunity won't be open for ever.

Your chances depend on your efforts. Google "television writing" and look around. (Is this really a new idea?) If you have any leaning in that direction, there are members of Clarity -- a producer and an actress -- who might could advise you.

no, it's not new, I did a script writing course and actually have a book or two on writing for TV, it's just that I never finished anything and definitely never submitted anything.

your interpretation is much more encouraging than mine. I took it to mean - don't even go there, it's the wrong path for you. hmm

You have a talent for the dramatic and a compulsion to write. Dripping water can break stone, but it has to hit the stone. Don't worry about rejection. Rejection is better than silence. Think of it as the sound the drop makes as it pecks away at the stone.

I like that - dripping water can break stone (but it has to hit the stone). Lot's of jaw action (24.6>27 and 21 biting through - either 'bite the bullet' or eat rocks for ten years?)

update

I'm all about updates these days...

I have just received 11.2.3 (again!) for a question about what might be missing from my life (in order to be..not perfect exactly, but most ideal, lets say)

So it was interesting to come across this thread and see that it was an answer to the question about what type of work should I be doing.

I'm doing very different things to what I was doing back then and I'm much happier, but most of it is very insecure and on the brink of change. The next step I take could change everything - for better or worse. Therefore it would be very important to understand this reading, but ..I still don't!

I think that maybe it was simply saying to keep returning back to my own middle, every hour, every day and be open to take such chances as may present themselves. In other words - there is no ultimate answer, nothing specific anyway. I could be equally content flipping burgers or teaching Anthropology, it is all folly anyway
