help with reading

I've been at my job for almost 6 years - it was supposed to be a pre-retirement job. After several decades of corporate world, I wanted a break, and wanted to let someone else be in charge. For the last couple of years my role has changed and now, especially in the last 3-6 months I'm once more in charge of many things...I like the challenge, I think I want to move into this new role exclusively, and am tempted to ask the owner for a redesign of my job.

But knowing that I need to be careful for what I ask for, I asked the oracle, "what might I expect if I stay on this path?"

I think this path doesn't go far, i.e. it doesn't lead to anything grand or different. Perhaps this means that they want you to have responsibilities, but without an equivalent title or salary (as is very common in the corporate world).

wow you certainly hit that on the head...this place always screams "we're a privately owned biz!" we want you to do more, we'll give you a fancy title, but sorry we can only pay you minimum wage...

is there a deeper question that i should be asking do you think?

When faced with choices, I like to ask about each ("result of choice a"etc). However I'm not sure I understood your choices here. Is it a matter of speak up, or continue what you do and say nothing? What would happen e.g. if you asked for more and they declined - would they sack you? Could you say "ok fine, no raise, but then sorry I don't want responsibility either"? I'd say pinpoint 2-3 possible actions on your part, then ask a question about each. Or, you could ask what the best course of action is.

thanks again...best course of action...but would my reading then come from what my course of action for here at work is or best course of action for my life over all would be - or - I guess - both work, and the life version would be the same thing?

The more focused the question, the more focused the answer! Go for one issue at a time, would be my view.
