I appreciate the insights offered on this board. I have been involved in a new relationship with a woman with I have experienced a powerful connection, one strong enough for me to leave my marriage of seven years with an honest heart. The person who appears to share this connection has also been in a long-term relationship and is struggling with how to end it. I have not given her any advice in this regard, choosing instead to allow her the emotional space to make this decision of her own accord and on her own timetable.

Ordinarily a man of action, I have found the exercise of restraint humbling to say the least, offering me an opportunity for some character development. Last night, she appeared to have achieved some awareness and was much more open and emotionally available than I have yet experienced and she has always been very demonstrative.

So I asked the I Ching a pointed question: ”What will be the final results of all the energies, sacrifices, risks and acts of devotion I have demonstrated in connection with [this person]”. To which I received the answer: 14 > 30 with one changing line, 9 at the second position. My first instinct is that this is favorable. Am I correct? Have I worded the question correctly? Any feedback would be most welcome!

When I consulted it again, I received 16.4 > 2 as a result. Again, this feels favorable. Am I correct?

Hi Gregjrob,

Your first question "what will be the final results of all the energies, sacrifices, risks, and acts of devotion I have demonstrated in connection with this person?"

I am not sure the advice I understand here will be helpful or understood by yourself, everyone here may not agree, but I thought I would give it a try, as it helps me in continuing my own learning and
understanding. So here's my understanding, read it, and then use your own intuition on what's right for you.

Reading: 14.2>30

30, li fire clinging, or clinging to brightness
As a background to what's happening right now...
Perhaps is saying you cling to her (she is the brightness)
Or you cling to what is right

14 To possess great assets

Can say you have an abundance of possessions, maybe in your characteristics. Great hexagram for you.

Line 2 seems to say you have the strength or characteristics to carry on many responsibilities. (Heavy loads) You are able to continue towards ypur chosen destination.

An advice in both hexagrams I found is to consider all involved, what is right for everyone, and pay attention to right timing. Seems to say you have what it takes to accomplish this if you follow advice and then you will progress, but it wont be easy, and you must keep the humbleness you have now, refraining from complaining on the way. Seems like it will be a lot of work to me, so it must be worth it to you.

I personally don't see it as a final result answer, but an answer that gives advice on how to get there. I find that when I ask questions, I get answers to what I need to do now, and its not always exactly the answer to my question, sometimes the answer has nothing to do with my question but it is the best advice I need at the time.

I will try to look into your second question later.
Best wishes to you

Thank you. I'm the state and clinical director for a non-profit human service agency supporting individuals with co-occurring illnesses and significant behavioral issues. I'm in my 25th professional year and have been privileged to support more than 500 individuals and perhaps twice that for direct support professionals. It's been rewarding in all respects and I love what I do. I was trained on an undergraduate level as a sculptor and have always loved the 'act of creating"... the "process" even more than the outcome.

Given all of this, I find your feedback heartening. Yes, she's worth all of this. She is a truly remarkable person who inspires me on many levels. Please take your time with the second answer. Thank you.

Your second answer to the same question seems me to be somewhat of the same answer with highlights. 16.4>2

2 as your background, what is happening now... gives the image of a mare, the mare is receptive, submissive, yet determined. Interesting to me in hexagram 2's image it says (the noble one carries heavy loads with great generosity) and again the advice of the right timing is emphasized.

16 shows strenth, power, inspiration, or enthusiasm
Image is of an elephant, seems to say to me, you are submissive to the enthusiasm you feel about having great pleasure and comfort with her. But advice is to still take pre-cautions because even though the elephant is usually harmless, it is still a big elephant.

Line 4 says do not doubt, friends will gather like the hair bound by a clasp. Always confuses me... but I love that it reassures you not to doubt and I find that it again says you possess great characteristics and can continue on towards your chosen destination to receive the results you want, you will do this by inspiring others and using your enthusiasm.

I could be completely off here, but I feel I have some insight, if even a little. Please follow your own intuition and take into consideration others that come along to offer their wisdom and experiences.

Overall both great answers for you, especially considering your recent post (loved the act of creating"

Again, I appreciate your response. I consulted the iChing once more and it responded with Hexagram 55, Abundance with no changing lines. I believe the theme is consistent in all of this. Thank you.

Same question? Answer 55... be like the sun at midday, bright, grand, abundant. Yes, same. But again remaining humble, refraining from arrogance. With my own experience with these exact answers with a previous relationship... maybe it will help you to ask yourself these questions... what if the result is not what you were hoping for? Will the journey still have been worth it? The load can be Very Heavy, and although you are capable, you will have to carry it on your own. Do you really want to? I'm biased, sorry, but even though I could carry the load, and it was with all my heart worth it, I became too focused eventually on how it would all turn out, because it was such a heavy load, I got tired of not knowing where we were headed, what our destination was, and weather or not we shared the same goal, I forgot to love the creating the process, I stopped. I ended it. Now I regret it. Its painful. Not that you asked, but I had these exact answers with a relationship.

It always comes down to the same question... is it the journey or the destination, the process or the finished work...I guess, for me, its always been about the former and not the latter. In the final analysis, it is less about what we have accomplished with our lives but more about how we accomplished it. I have broad shoulders...and I'm not afraid of challenges. In all honesty, she is worth every ounce of my energies. I've been married twice and have already offered her freely what I could not offer to my previous partners. Giving to her feels natural and unforced. The heavy lifting much lighter than I could have imagined.

Thanks for the feedback, disclosed biases much appreciated.

Hi,
Thank you for sharing such inspiring story. I am also in a relationship where there are 2 other people involved, but we live very far away from each other. It's been 1 1/2 years since we met. I received a lot of 14 s during this time, but I always thought the Yi was saying that I was already blessed. Regardless of the outcome, and that's not always what I wanted to hear, although it is a beautiful hexagram. I also received 16 s and I have a beautiful photo of an elephant in my office, to remind me of the power of inspiration. The key difference here is that you are holding on to all of the most optimistic and positive aspects of these readings, and that is beautiful. She is a very lucky woman. I wish you both all the best!

Wanted to share this...thought it was meaningful. When I saw her today, she presented me with an elephant carving as a gift. Said she felt "compelled" to buy it for me yesterday, so obeyed her impulse. Given the imagery/symbolism in hexagram 16, I thought this was a favorable sign.

When I asked the oracle for understanding behind "the intent behind {my love's] gift of the elephant to me", I was presented with 58 with changing lines at 2, 4, 6 > 42. Again, I believe the universe is providing me with encouragement.

My personal experiences with Hex 14 have often been a situation where I what I was accumulating or "Possessing" was experience and self worth for the future, regardless of how the events around me turned out. I would say it's positive for you, not necessarily the situation, and you may not realize the positivity right away.

Hope that helps.

I appreciate all of the feedback and personal experiences. I am a novice with this and my intellect does not serve me well, rationalization can defeat intuition.
