Hello all,

I’m very much a beginner, I dip in and out if the I Ching, not always feeling I fully understand yet. To give you some background, I have come to a bit of a crossroads in my psychotherapy, dealing with issues from a chaotic childhood, separating from my family, finding a healthy relationship etc. For the last few weeks I have been feeling negative about the relationship with my therapist and unsettled in between sessions and have been questioning whether I need to take a break. We have been talking about this. Something just doesn’t feel right within me, but I’m not sure if this is because I’m dealing with difficult issues. I was feeling very confused after a session earlier in the week and so I turned to the I Ching and asked:

What Can I understand about the relationship and received 35.4 —> 23
Advancing suggests progress to me, however the changing line suggests perseverance could bring danger, if I have understood it correctly and the image of a rodent suggests something hidden.

I also asked: how to proceed and received 52.3 to 23
This line seems to reflect back the confusion I was feeling. For the changing line, I read about a separation between the head and heart.
‘stilling’ does this mean stilling myself or the relationship, since I asked how to proceed..
I felt confused after our last session because I felt she was asking me do things I don’t yet feel ready for or cannot yet because of underlying issues that have not yet been addressed, I feel like things have to come naturally at my pace and it doesn’t feel that way at the moment, something is amiss.
I also read about the theme of sexual desire, which is interesting because this theme had come up in a dream I had this week and was looking at in counselling.
I must admit I feel quite confused on what this line is trying tor tell me!

I also thought it may be significant that both readings led to ‘stripping away’, but that is what I am ultimately trying to do, strip away the layers to reach my peaceful centre.

After sitting with those readings, a few days later I asked: what will happen if take a break from my counsellor and received 19.2 —> 24

Line 2 was auspicious ‘nothing that doesn’t bear fruit’ and there was a positive image of advancing, leading to 24, perhaps a returning to my own being.

And
What will happen if I take a break from my counsellor and received 63.1.3 —> 8

Line 1
After completion, already across, the work is done, a time for ‘resting and being quiet’ (Legge) this suggests to me that perhaps a break is indicated

Line 3
It will take a long ardous journey to attain the goal, ‘weariness’ indicated (Ritsema/Karcher) I do indeed feel weary from thinking about it.

My interpretation is that the readings are reflecting the different options forward at my crossroads, I felt that taking a break and coming back to my whole being seemed a positive option and continuing would be a long road ahead. I don’t feel my work is done (it takes a lifetime) but perhaps this current episode has come to an end.
If anyone could help to shed any more light on these readings, I’d be most grateful
Thanks in anticipation for your help.
Let me know if need any further information

Warm wishes

Dear Moss Elk,

Thanks for your reply. Hmmmm, that’s interesting - I don’t feel im consciously sneaking around and try to be as honest as I am able. I’ve always felt her motives to be sincere, however I can’t shake this feeling that something is not right at the moment, but I don’t know if this is just because of the issues we’ve been working on, i am too involved to be objective.

I certainly don’t have an attraction to my therapist. She has partner/husband (as far as I’m aware) and has not done or said anything to suggest she’s attracted to me.

Warm wishes
