Hi all! I've been reading up on the hexagrams but I'm still new to casting and would love some help with a recent reading.

A friend of mine recently had surgery. She's going to be okay but she'll have to go through some recovery and rehabilitation for a few weeks. I've already decided I'm going to call her up and visit her more often than usual, as she'll be completely housebound for a couple weeks. I asked the Yi what I could do (or how I could be) to help her out and got 58.1.2.4 > 8. Lines 58.1 and 58.2 seem to suggest that I can best help out by staying positive, cheerful, and happy whenever we talk or get together, and that I have to be sincere about it and not just faking it. Maybe I need to not dwell on the negatives of her situation too much. 8 makes sense here, I'll be going to visit her from time to time.

The line that has me a bit confused is 58.4. In general, it seems to be about finding joy in activities that could be dangerous or hazardous to health. But maybe this isn't only about physical risks? I wonder if it's warning me to be happy but not so cheerfully helpful that others will try to take advantage? Any insights about this reading would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The line that has me a bit confused is 58.4. In general, it seems to be about finding joy in activities that could be dangerous or hazardous to health. But maybe this isn't only about physical risks? Its a lovely answer which suggests to me that just you being there is a great tonic for her. It does say in 58 that such is the power of joy and communication between people it even makes people forget their hardships.

Don't worry too much about 58.4. I have had it a few times re smaller health issues and it seems to indicate a time where there's much going back and forth between choices....or a time where the body is in the midst of recovery...it goes back and forth. Sometimes it seems to be losing the battle then it seems to be winning, thats how recovery often feels doesn't it, one has ups and down for a while but generally in the end it wins.

But your question was about how to help her not about the process of her recovery so i'm thinking the 58.4 just reflects your deliberation over what to do for the best. I think you will have to play it by ear. If there's times she seems low accept its all part of recovery, things go up and down when a long recovery is needed.

Lovely answer though as it shows a joyful exchange between you and that you naturally belong together as friends. Together the hexagrams read Joyful Open(58) Unity (8)

So 58.4 is nothing to fear only be aware there may be situations of going back and forth either in her recovery process or in your choices about how often to visit and so on

TY!

Thanks so much for the thoughtful reply, trojan. She probably will go thru some ups and downs, with some days/moments easier than others. I didn't think of that but now I can keep an eye out and see how things go. And I agree that it was a beautiful combination for the type of question asked. Very appropriate. Thanks again :)
