I haven't had any memorable dreams for quite awhile... it's been quiet... but last night I had a very interesting dream. I don't know when I was awake and when I was dreaming... because I either dreamed I was dreaming... or I was awake and don't remember. But the whole experience was fresh in my mind when I WAS awake (for sure) this morning after the alarm went off.

My ancestors, my paternal grandmother and great grandmother, yelled at me "Wake up. Hurry. Get ready. It's almost time." I looked at them coming out of the ether into my view as I tried to focus (just waking up... or was I?). They were far away, but I recognized my grandmother and said "Oh hi Grandma" and noticed she hadn't changed in all these years... doh! all these years she's been dead that is. She briefly introduced me to my great grandmother whom I'd never met... but they had such a sense of urgency about them that we didn't really get to chat.

So I threw the coins as soon as I woke... I mean really woke. I got 51.3 to 55. I grabbed Freeman's book, and I really love his translation and interpretation of 51.3:

<blockquote>Thunder Soo-soon --
Thunder: travel
no calamity.

Circumstances are changed. You must now not only stand your ground, but go on the offensive.</blockquote>On a ski lift once, I'd spaced out and hadn't gotten ready to jump off at the top of the mountain in time. I was still kicked back on the seat when we got there, and when I realized it, I tried to quickly scoot forward but couldn't because my pants were frozen to the chair. I almost didn't make it off and almost went back around to the bottom with the chair, but I panicked and jumped pulling my frozen pants off the chair with a rip in the nick of time.

Well that's how I feel about 51.3... like I'd better scoot forward on the seat and make sure I'm not frozen to it so I can jump to meet the mountain when I get there.

Val

Nah - you didnt tell us what the wording of the question was that you focused upon as you threw the coins...

That said, given what you have presented:

There is an overall reactive focus by you to start with and so a yin state that later changes into yang (you become proactive)

The focus on time is indicative of something just about to happen and you have no choice in the matter, so it WILL happen and so a YANG state.

(paternal link to 'father time' etc presented along a female linage...)

Are we dealing ultimately with facts or values? Depends on the question. As such, from a trigram perspective we have a yang middle and a yin to yang top with an indeterminate bottom line - and so a choice of yin-over-yang for top over middle. Bottom up this gives us:

X1? - and so a focus on the trigrams of Lake or water (010 or 110) changing into wind or heaven (011 or 111)

So... no strong sense of thunder in any of this, indicating it is not the 'best fit' but interpretable as 'meaningful' to some degree. (The coin toss will ALWAYS give you a hexagram that it interpretable as 'meaningful' but in an order from 'best fit' to 'worst fit') -- so lets review the elements of your description:

But note that Water and Wind cover security seeking with the temporal element manifest in wind through a focus on cultivation, anticipation etc. The focus on grand mother etc emphasises a temporal link and so the sense of cultivation etc but from a female perspective. But note that any cultivation here is to the existing context (what ever that is around you at the moment) and so service to that context rather than self-serving (which we find in lake/heaven's focus on replacement of context).

Lake and Heaven cover sensation seeking with a focus on replacement of 'something' with something 'better' as in the context of oneself. That does not come across in the dream in that there is a strong link to genetic past and so recognition of history/time. (in asserting one's own context there is no consideration of past etc. it is all immediate, now, oriented and so a sense of starting again, re-birth etc (all 'new')

So... overall the CONTEXT in which the dream comes out of is about security seeking. A Water bias is a focus on containment/control where we use some boundary to focus on issues of protection/rejection etc BUT the temporal element in the dream favours WIND where we focus on anticipations of wrong doing or right doing; setting down foundations etc to aid in cultivation - so the dream is indicative of some local situation focused in security seeking and in particular something about to happen. This being the case there is a sense of a lack of trust in others and as such a need to supervise their actions (and so the push to hurry, to be on time to witness 'something' etc)

Oh my goodness Chris...

My last post was to thank you for your effort with a little injection of humor. Now I think I know what they mean when they say a little humor goes a long way! LOL

Thank you again!

Oh Chris...

Sorry... To answer your statement that I didn't indicate the wording of my question when I consulted the Yi... I asked what I ask whenever I have a dream that intense... "What was THAT about?"

I had another intense one this morning... four generations and both genders showed up for this one.... my mother, my daughter, my grandson and I. And I got that it had something to do with my own puberty... because I asked a 'doll' his age when he turned into a real person, and he said, "Oh around 13 or so."

Now my puberty, as I remember it, was really pretty uneventful... all the trauma happened before then. So I threw the coins and asked... of course, "What was THAT about?" And the Yi answered 32.3 to 40. The first source I consulted was Richard Rutt's book... fixing an augury... taking advantage of a window of opportunity? hmmm... why the symbolism of puberty then? hmmmm.

Then when I got to work, I looked at Brad's interpretation... and it's kind of eerie how it states what dreams are all about:

<blockquote>"We study our lives and makes up plans for our past, to sort what we are from what we are not. We seem inclined to draw lines of connection between all of our most shining moments, like a great string of luminous pearls. But we tend to leave out those actual things which may not shine so brightly, as well as our dark spots, our shadows and secrets and shames. Duration does not have these long interruptions:
it tracks the paths which we travel in fact. It is so easy to make improvements on who we think we are and then come to believe that we shine all the time. But this does not fool our fellows or peers. A viable theory of who and what you might be wants to account for all of the facts, including the great gaps of dullness and dark."</blockquote> Love,

Val

Interesting take on 51.3, Brad's is. I see the correlation, but not sure I can agree on the exclusive direction: from delusionary clear to realistic shadow. Shock can and does often work in the opposite direction from this: from self condemning to self approving.

Bruce-
I'm glad that you caught that.
As 51.3, that made no sense whatsoever :)

Hi there Bruce...

51.3 was the answer to the dream yesterday morning... or all night long... or I'm not sure just what happened.

32.3 was after this morning's dream... and that's Brad's interpretation of 32.3.

I'm not taking either dream very seriously... I don't really unless they start to recur... which these haven't. I just love the Yi's response to them more than anything else. And yes... Brad's interpretation of 32.3 rather set back in my chair a bit... I mean... fancy that!

Love,

Val
