going through a break up and its really painful because I have not got any closure, it just ended - no communication, he just blocked me and stopped taking my calls. It hurts so bad. He works near me so I see him from time to time and I see him talking to other women and it hurts.

I asked " When will it stop hurting"

I don't understand the reading because I don't feel enthusiastic about anything right now. I don't want to see friends or go anywhere.

It will hurt less as your enthusiasm for life returns. I see hexagram 16 as not only enthusiasm, but also inspiration and most importantly for someone like myself who can get quite emotional - I take it as a sign that I need to listen to lots of music. It helps to move my emotions along.

Perhaps consider doing things that make your body feel good, because spending a lot of time in emotional pain is exhausting. Isolating yourself from your friends or family may not always be the wisest idea, they may be able to help you. Some of them are likely to have felt the way you feel before... That said, my first instinct is to isolate myself when I am upset, though as I've gotten older I have realised that I also need to have some good times to balance out all that hurt. Nothing major, just a friendly smile, a bit of a laugh. I even called someone once and said "I think I need a hug, although I may end up crying on your shoulder. Can you help?" They came straight over, gave me a hug and told me lots of jokes until I started laughing again. Simple, but it worked.

Not being flippant here, but I am reminded of the old saying "this too, shall pass". You won't feel like this forever and compared to the entirety of your life, it will be a relatively short amount of time before you're feeling great again. In time you'll likely realise that only a less-than-honourable person would treat you the way your ex has done. No matter what the reason is for the break-up.

...sending you my warmest telepathic bear hug from across the ocean.

Richmond's comments are very helpful in emotional and personal readings, h16:
The identified self is at the bottom of a wave of activity, between one wave and another; it is time for rest. A common name of the hexagram is "repose" we should not go too quickly towards activity but neither lose sight of its coming rise.
It is a time when we can widen our sense of time and, while being in the moment, be aware of other moments.
Being at the node of a cycle (a point about which our reality swings) the tao will seem different when it is seen from one side of the node or the other; if we look ahead it is about excitement in outer involvement whereas if we are in the present it is about inner involvement.
What we need to do in this situation is to allow ourselves to be carried by activity when it comes to us and thus neither get stuck in a stance of repose nor create premature activity.

Without an amnesty how is the knot to be untied?

h16 has many names, one of them is "Repose", taking a break. A moment when the swings/pendulum stop, reaching their highest point.
Take a break, forgive that man, thank him for the lesson and move on, then it will end.

I'm sorry it's so painful, River1980. Hexagram 16 makes me think of music too. Sometimes deciding to appreciate (I won't say enjoy) every emotion, even the less apparently pleasant ones, can help - like making a playlist of sad/angry songs and just deciding to wallow for a while. It's so human to want to get away from pain, but relaxing into it, like relaxing into boredom, can be really interesting. Maybe, as in this lovely two-minute animation of Alan Watts' teaching, hexagram 16 is saying 'enjoy the music'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERbvKrH-GC4

It's a mistake to use one word like "enthusiasm" for a hexagram meaning.
The commentary on the judgement suggests 順動, shun dong, or responsive movement,
getting the rhythm of the time and moving with it, like we move with music.
In this way we can capture the energy or momentum around us, and allow it to assist us.
But there are also times when it's appropriate to go through a natural grieving process.
