Please give me some insight. Here is the question I asked: "What can I expect if I start my own business?"

Hexagram 18 came up with lines 2, 3, 5, and 6 transforming.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Hex 18.2,3,5,6 >8 says that you want to correct mistakes made in the past, but to think very carefully and not rush headlong into anything. It suggests that you will certainly need a helping hand to get things off the ground. As you wish to withdraw from working for others and find your own path in life, it suggests that you don't get lazy but put a great deal of effort into your project.

Hex 8 suggests that you will have to form a partnership which could well be successful providing that you know about the business that you are thinking about setting up. If you are entering a field that you know nothing about, then you will in all likelyhood fail.

This casting gave an unusually larger number of transforming lines. Is there any significance to this? Thanks for the input.

People view this differently - I personally pay less attention to each moving line when there are more than 3 lines moving and just look at the sentence/story the 2 hexagrams make. Also many people would say the more moving lines there are the more unstable and fluctuating the situation - so in a sense each line carries less weight.

I find this cast quite hard to read - Wfox could well be right, but i think you need to fit this to your own situation for yourself. I've a feeling it may refer to the past the deterioraton of the group/company you have belonged to - that may be there is some chance that this company can correct its mistakes etc and pull through - in which case you won't be thinking of setting up your own company anymore.

I find the Yi often works like that for me - if I'm asking about something that (turns out will never happen) it refers me to the event that overrides my question - if you know what I mean.

But with this cast especially I feel you will be the one to 'get' its meaning - I don't think theres a right meaning you'll get from us. If you ignore the moving lines and look at the two hexagrams as a sentence what does it say to you ? Are you are only thinking of setting up your own company becasue of the deterioraton of the one you have been working in ?

Here is more information about the situation that I am in. I've worked for this company for over 2 years in a low level position (no management responsibility). I've worked at this job to supplement my income to the photography business I've operated since 1990. This company has a great idea but it is being terribly managed. I don't see the management making any changes for the better, as a matter of fact, I believe there is a very good chance it could fold. I see a real opportunity for me to start my own business doing the same thing this company does. I've made some excellent contacts and I'm very well thought at the places I work where I perform the service for this company. I am at a point in my life that I don't have any family responsibilites (my children are raised and on their own and i'm divorced) and I feel I can take the risk to start this on my own. I am very familar with the service that the company I work for provides and I have numerous ideas where significant improvement could be made.

Hi Gordon,

I think Willowfox's interpretation looks accurate.

To me, it's a promising reading for undertaking this new venture, especially given the additional background you've provided. But it won't come easily or overnight, as WF has suggested.

Best of luck with it.

It's clear that you have the drive and enthusiasm to do this Gordon and it looks like you going to need it! ;) Maybe 18 means that this will be a big learning curve for you. Perhaps too it'll address things in yourself you never imagined. Sounds like there needs to be a lot of serious preparation before you take the plunge.

I wish you the best of luck and great success. Let us know how it goes.

This is not something that I just started thinking about. I've been laying the groundwork for this move for more than a year. I kept hoping that the company I work for would make some improvements but that has not happened and I don't believe it will happen. I did not know about I Ching a year ago so I did not have it to consult until very recently. I cannot tell everyone who responds to my posts how helpful this is for me. I am still not very conifident in my interpretations especially when it pertains to something that is close to me. I feel I need to learn better how to listen to what the I Ching is trying to tell me and not what I want to hear.
