Hi everyone,

I asked about an ex who used to be a friend (and I still wish we were friends). My question was "how does she feel about me?"

I got 23 and 24 and would really appreciate if someone could help me understand what it means. Can we ever return as friends again? Is that what 24 means? Does it mean we split as lovers but could return as friends? But we haven't spoken in a long while (almost 2 years now).

Thanks!

Hello Crystal

The lines changing here are the first and the sixth, and that would indicate to me that you two are still far apart from each other. I assume this is a friendship and not a relationship. The first line speaks of slanderers, and people who would tear you apart. Could this have happened? If so, then as far apart as you are now, if you can discover the source of the problem, and "fix it", there might be some possibility of a reconciliation eventually, though maybe not right away.

There must have been something that happened that made you think that maybe you could work things out. Is that correct? I wouldn't expect to patch up things too soon, but there is implicit in the situation the possibility.

My interpretation is that the reading is about the present ( the present tense in your question) things are delicate and about to fall, unless she is a great person (line 23.6) although you will have a bad start (line 23.1), and probably she will return (regret her actions and turn back, not return with you). There's generally to meanings to your future hexagram: return, start again, or the interpretation that is also mine, go and turn back (if you search 复fu in a dictionary you will see, going and coming as one of the meanings.). I have other opinions how you should form the future hexagram , principally the upward movement http://chinayinyang.wordpress.com/2012/06/04/易经yi-jing-i-ching-future-hexagram-and-upward-movement/

Along with these concepts, it can be said that hexagram one and two are the prototype for all hexagrams that follow. So hexagram one line one is the basis for all yang lines in line one in the rest of the hexagrams. In the same way, hexagram two is the prototype, or basis, for all yin lines in the first position in the rest of the hexagrams, so can be interpreted in light of the first yin line in hexagram two. In hexagram one, it is too early to start. In hexagram two, decay has already started in. So in hexagram twenty three, we see the beginnings of decay. However, humans can do things to work on the decay, (see hexagram eighteen) and fix the problem, at least in most cases.

In hexagram twenty three line one we see that someone is trying to undermine us. (This is not the only interpretation, but we can use that one here.) Since, as the article says, the lines show an upward movement, (both in time; hexagram one, and in space; hexagram two), It would appear that after a period of time, (or space) a change can be made, and the person or situation causing the problem, has the problem visited back on them. (Karma, somewhat)

While I do not usually use the method where when more than one line changes, we read the line in the hexagram where the first changing line changes too. There is certainly nothing wrong in that approach if that is what you wish to do. I just feel I get enough information just reading the changing lines. However, if line one changes, then the relating hexagram is twenty seven, which tells us to pay attention to what we feed upon. Line six where line six tells us that great undertakings bring good fortune. That ultimately leads to hexagram twenty four, which, regardless of which way we read it, tells us of new beginnings.

Hi Gene,

It's quite amazing how you read it in terms of "far apart". Actually, we are indeed physically on two continents with a 12-hour time difference. That was one of the main reasons for the break up i.e. long distance is just hard. Plus she has hang-ups about this relationship (it is not a "conventional" one).

Leandroscardoso's interpretation that she may turn back but not return with me... that sounds bad but possible as well.

It does sound like nothing's going to change for quite a while, and that is pretty true too. Perhaps, we both just need time to mature some more.

hope its not too late a reply

Hi, I'm studying iching and saw this post. I think at the time she probably feels not only you guys are separated physically, but also she is contemplating this separation as a falling apart from a known(old/past) situation (the relationship). I don't see the changing hexagram as a result. I think the hexagram 24 is telling you she feels the pain and confusion of separation because she is feeling like she is starting a recovering process, or this feeling of separation is because her going back to her old way of life (to be single, no longer in a relationship, returning to where she supposed to be, or feel safe). There are two changing lines. The line 1 and line 6 are telling me she feels (from her perspective) that the relationship didn't work because there are things wrong in terms of false assumptions and she feels like she has something great to offer but because you went ahead (to leave or something else) without seeing it, the relationship falls apart. But she is ready to move on. I'm not sure whether this is right. But hope it's not too late a reply.
