Yeah, although I'm not particularly familiar with Corinthians, I think the passage you cited harmonizes nicely with 23.6.

It's the Jesus teachings themselves that are the benchmark for me, though. Can you think of something in either the four gospels or the gnostic or apocryphal or Muslim tradition of Jesus that addresses 23.6? I can think of bits where he talked about negative outcomes like being cast into the darkness and wailing and gnashing of teeth, and I can think of bits like the prodigal son where there's a good outcome in the end. But what about a 23.6 outcome, which combines and contrasts...? Ah! What about the wise virgins and the oil? That's one, right?

If you consider that during this one lifetime we undergo many deaths and rebirths, many strippings, it can apply each time.

I know what you mean. This is why I keep Buddha around my wrist and Jesus in my pocket. So they'll be there when I too am stripped away.

p.s. this is true

I think the virgins/lamp/oil parable works.

There are several Jesus quotes/parables which touch on 23.6-ness, but not directly. I think Jesus' entire life depicts 23, and line 6 particularly, whether believed literally or understood metaphorically.

John 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a kernel of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

Compare this to Bradford's 23.6.commentary, especially his last sentence: "It is merely appropriate for unsustainable things to self-destruct now. The rot will only attack the weak, the worms get at the dead fruit, the seed is set free."
