Good morning everyone. I've been in my current job for 13 years. although I know quite a lot I haven't made much progression but the pay was good so I just put up with it. Now the company has stopped giving out any annual pay increases and cutting back where it can its become pretty depressing and I wish Id moved on ages ago (while I was younger!)

Anyway I asked the Iching what was likely to happen to my career and received 25 (2,3,5) 14. Im a bit baffled as moving line 3 usually in my experience has fortold impending loss but hex 14 suggests otherwise. Could anyone help me interpret please?

Thank you, Simon

Hi Simon

Your word, baffled, piqued my interest. It's natural for you to feel baffled. If you know or find some of the useful purposes for various kinds of baffles, they're available to ground, stabilize, release, resound, or not resound. Interesting word. Anyway..

The best opportunities seem to appear out of nowhere,
in spite of all the seeds you may have planted elsewhere.

If you try to force it, you lose the beat.

Hi Simon,

25 speaks of not having any blame in what has taken place, you are innocent, so to speak
25.2 fix your eyes on the process, on the task at hand and not the result that you wish to have (whatever that may be, you know best)
25.3 yes, you did not deserve it to have the benefits of your job taken away from you, but you are asked to accommodate yourself to these times, otherwise even more misfortune will come your way
25.5 because it was not you who brought this turn of events upon yourself, let nature take its course and trust that this too shall pass.
14 focus less on the bad and more on the good things about this job or even your current employment situation :)

Hello,

Well ... things are such that you're forced to examine the sitaution and your career so far. Perhaps now is the time to change, take a different path, steer yourself in a different direction - or just look for another job which at least would motivate you more and/or guarantee better prospects in the future.

If you're under 56 years of age, do consider this. The retirement age has increased, hence even if you're over 56 you have nothing to lose by making enquiries and networking. Don't let the fact that things are tough deter you, even during the recession it's possible to find a more challenging job with a better salary.

All the best !

Hello just a quick update on what happened. I wasn't expecting very much in light of 25 line 3 and there seemed to be a warning that I could lose what little I had if I tried to force the issue with the company. So I carried on as diligently as I could, and about 18 months later out of the blue got an unexpected promotion and surprising increase in salary/bonus/status that was completely out of line with what was happening elsewhere in the company with job cuts etc. The experience has been very rewarding, and I'm certainly not complaining, but the unpredictability of events has made me acutely aware of how fragile the position, with its increased responsibilities, is.
