Hex 30: adherence or separation?

Hi everybody,

here I am staring at hex 30 in the face. I received it as the relating hex of 34, and I realized it could mean adherence as well as separation. How one understands which meaning is stressed in a given reading?

A hexagram has a range of meanings. Pick the meaning that best fits the situation. In addition to adherence and separation, hexagram 30 might mean mourning, loyalty, the Dog constellation (Aquarius), cow, drum, net, light, fire, host and guest, eyes, the summer solstice, . . .

There is an almost mystical understanding at the heart of 30. Within this, the paradoxical meanings of adherence and separation combine. They are both real at the same time. If you have my book downloaded, look up Li, the bagua, in Volume One and read the explanatory paragraph. You are in the middle, between a converging past and an emerging future. Li is the moment between them.

Thank you so much pocossin. I find it hard to pick the meaning that best fit the situation. I see that I tend to pick the meaning that I would like the most as a result... Intriguing the fact that it means the Dog constellation too – my inquiry is about two dogs!

Weird. I just woke from a dream of two dogs. One was extremely large and powerful, potentially very dangerous, yet momentarily kept calm, and the other was very human friendly and playful, but with a slightly anxious nature. I had to walk the second dog (my dog) safely by the first dog, without a leash, projecting a calm energy so as not to arouse aggression from the first, massive and potentially dangerous dog. I can see 34 as the large dog and 30 as the affectionate dog. No idea if it's related to your reading, or if your reading is related to my dream, but they do seem to relate.

PS: Both families and owners of the dogs were checking into a motel.

About your dream it sounds like you feel you have to protect yourself by navigate this moment of your life expressing only the 30 side of yourself and keep the 34 energy in check in order to come out unscathed. Does it make any sense?

Thank you for your interpretation of my dream. After more waking hours to ponder it, I came to the same conclusion, and I'm quite sure I've identified both dogs, as well as the other people and the motel (the host, which are all internal). Your reading really did help bring them to life.
