Hex 36

What does this mean? I asked the oracle: what does ****** think of me? I got back hex 36 no changing lines.

What is revealing the inner light? Is that being authentic and genuine?

Thank you in advance for your help. :bows:

Well, 36 is brightness obscured, so ...... either thinks that you are

a) hiding your light under a bushel
b) hiding something
c) are a bit dim
d) doesn't think of you at all

Unfortunately, this is what you get when you ask Yi questions about people other than yourself.

From the way the question was worded:
That you aren't forthcoming.
Or that you aren't up to your potential.

Unless it's all flipped around and
******* just isn't gonna tell.

other option is wounded.

but my first impression was like bradford's last suggestion, his insight (fire) is hidden from you, fire is under earth in the trigrams. Or your brightness is obscured (which is along the lines of the story of Ji-Zi), so it could be saying he cant see you, or what you let others see is an obscured view anyway.

That's often suggested, but this is the reason I don't translate the Yi in Ming Yi as Wounded. I think the character depicted in the lines is anything but a victim, although it may serve his interests if he either starts out as one or appears to be one:

While the circumstances that surround this Gua might recommend or suggest that one's light be dimmed, hidden or shielded, this is not really an image of this light being defeated, wounded or damaged. The process of Darkening the Light is proactive: it is done deliberately, as a stratagem. Covert Intelligence, in fact, is a viable, literal translation of Ming Yi, and a couple of instances of its use are described in the lines. Disguise is used in the lines as well: a man feigning a limp, and a bird feigning a broken wing as a misdirection, and a prisoner feigning insanity (a reference to an historical Chinese Hamlet). Also useful here is the notion of banking the coals of a fire, reducing its rate of combustion, to allow the flame to last through the night.

Hello Davy... I'm newer to the I Ching, and I always find 36 to be tricky. Especially unchanging! I agree with the other members. I think it generally means her view of you is somehow limited. But, I have read your other threads... I wonder if 36 here could point to your strong romantic feelings for her, and that you have not revealed your feelings to her? Is that possible? Perhaps she has picked up on this, and suspects you have not expressed your feelings completely... How much have you told her of your feelings?

These are all hitting on finer points of whats going on. dancing white ferret hit it, I do have strong feelings that I can't reveal, not yet. The way is blocked until such a time we can meet. Imagine getting a note from someone you barely know about your undying love and devotion. She might think that at best a little premature. At worst, it could come across as downright creepy. The light is obscured because I cannot reveal the light, and neither can she, no matter how much we want to. I see it now, to look into your lovers eyes and whisper love is much different than writing her twitter or face note which is very public. Love is sacred, thus the dimming. Lovers should dim their light [in this case our passions] in front of societies strong scrutiny.

I also liked bradford, very astute "While the circumstances that surround this Gua might recommend or suggest that one's light be dimmed, hidden or shielded, this is not really an image of this light being defeated, wounded or damaged. Yep, this nails it my friend. Thank you. I didn't realize it until I started reading your post. It was hidden deep under the layer of an onion. I had to experience some emotion which was my psyches way of drugging it up. You said exactly what I was subconsciously trying to achieve. This girl, no matter how attractive she is to me, must wait until I can tell her face to face how I feel. I must be a man about it and not wimp out, to bare her answer in the light is the right thing to do.

Thank you all. You have my deepest heartfelt appreciation. :bows:

This is an excellent condensation of my own experiences with 36. "Wounding the light" doesn't really convey what's going on here -- one is consciously (or otherwise) hiding one's true affections. I spent quite a long spell seeing 36 > 24 on a daily basis -- numbers that have quite a specific meaning for american males of a certain generation. Who says the Yi doesn't have a sense of humor?
