Hello Fellow Seekers of the Truth,

Hexagram 44 is Seduction - or Coming to Meet. But what about line 5? Also it changes to hex 50 which I think is a wonderful hexagram. I'd love some insight on this urgently -- before it's too late! I'm currently estranged from my True Love, a German student -- in the sense that although we are committed to each other, we've not been writing to each
other for over a month now (although he has sent a message to me through my Spiritual mentor in the Temple -- he too loves my spiritual path -- and the message says that he misses me a lot and hopes to come back to India soon.) because he needs to focus on his PhD now and this has thrown a spanner in the works because he was to finish his diploma and move
to India next year. This insight about his new decision to do his PhD came about in the Temple here while he was performing one of the rituals. He then confided to the Guruji who told him to go ahead and focus. For as she says if he doesn't, none of us will be happy. It may be helpful here to say that he's half my age but I don't think age has anything to do with true love. It's more a question of emotional maturity and honesty-- and I believe a sharing of values -- especially values that can benefit others. I've known him for more than a year now and he's been twice to India just to be with me. Earlier we used to write to each other almost every day so this is a tough time for me, but I know it will pass and love triump over all odds.

The strange thing is that when one of the sanyasins asked the I Ching on my behalf - whether he will visit the temple again on the 1st of December (also my birthday!) she received the very same line I had drawn when I had asked if he'd at least wish me on my birthday. Blessings from heaven -- do you think it could be linked to the temple visit?

Ultimately, as Guruji says, one's future is seeded in the present, so loyalty and devotion always pay in the long run.

Please let me know as soon as possible and sorry if this mail sounds too complicated!

Regards

Anita

Hi Anita, I asked about this particular moving line sometime ago in the friends area of this site, so if you read the replies I got it may be some help. Sorry, don't know how to do links but it comes under the heading 'Help understanding hexagram 44 line 5. I was asking about a work situation.
Anyway the fact that both of you threw this hexagram for the same question is quite amazing. I would interpret it as saying that whatever obstacles appear to be in the way, he's going to be around that day, maybe unexpectedly - he'll just drop by - like the ripe fruit falling from heaven. Or maybe you'll get to be together even more than you expect.
I know thats a dangerously predictive perspective from me, but hopefully others here will add their insights too. Though whichever way you look at it seems a positive to me

Hi Louise,

Thank you so much for your encouraging answer. A possibility of my boyfriend dropping by suddenly is very possible since he told me to always remember how much he loves me and how I'm the only one for him. He said there will be no contact between us for a 'long time' but he will carry me in his heart... and anyway, he did write to Itsuko recently. Maybe he mean sto surprise me on my birthday. I also went through the earlier posts to your question and this cherishing a secret makes a lot of sense too-- I'm dying to write to him, but I'm keeping myself in check -- and this too comes through as a warning in 44 -- to restrain one's yin desires. I shall definitely let you know the outcome (sigh, patience is something I don't have much of!).

I gather that there is a strongly sexual connotation to this hex. Here this is interesting because while performing a sacred ceremony in the temple (where one represents an enlightened soul and will take on some of this soul's pure tendencies if one is ready for it to enter one), he suddenly lost the sexual urge. We've had a great sexual relationship so this was a shock to me. I have performed these ceremonies so often and still have not lost the urge! I suppose he's more focussed than I am. I wish though for a comeback of the sexual joy we've had ...perhaps hex 44 means it will be back. Being seen as seductive (was a model for many years)and seeing myself as such, the sudden break from sex had proved pretty stressful for me.

Also hex 50 does point to spirituality which too makes a lot of sense. We will definitely be spending a lot of time in the temple and both of us are committed to it just as we're committed to each other.

Thanks again Louise!

Regards

Anita

Hi everyone, I suspect that the conversation on hexagram #44 line 5 has played out by now, but I am new, and just thought I would throw in a comment. This line is one that some commentators, such as Wilhelm Baynes, give a very positive slant to, and others a very negative. I think it depends a lot on the circumstances. There is one little two word phrase in there that I think is often glossed over. It says, "hidden lines." This to me would indicate there is something beneath the surface that may be positive or negative, but not known to the seeker, or maybe to no one. It is somewhat analogous to "The High Priestess" card in the Tarot, there is something hidden. What does happen may happen very unexpectedly, and in a way no one thought of previously. There is a very strong element of fate here, for positive, or for negative. But what we have earned, or asked for, we get. With this line I suspect there is a lot of introspection needed to find whether we have sown the seeds of a good life, or the seeds of a more disastrous life. This will determine, I think anyway, whether the line produces a positive outcome, or a negative one.

Wow, sorry I think I am late. Hexagram 44:5 means in an awful situation you will have one chance to change the outcome to a favorable one. Its a ray of hope in an otherwise unhappy situation, in cases of love, it usually means betrayal and jealousy. Line 5 says you have a small opportunity to change the outcome. If you missed it don't feel badly because at the time you should have paid close attention and asked the sage how you might have taken advantage of your one chance. hope this illuminates, at least for future challenges
