I can't count the times I've received some variation of h47. I have learned that oppression or exhaustion can come from within ourselves: physically, emotionally, mentally, and also come from without, often in obvious and literal ways, by holding you down, drying you up, depleting your life. My question is mostly quantitative.

I perceive that h47 pertains to my own inner oppression____% of the time, is the actual question.

So if I say 80% I don't know if that is saying 80% to an outie or 80% to an inner. See what I mean ?

I voted "other".

in my experience there was something from without that caused the 47 feeling, however the 'weight" of its importance , how Big or Small is, feels that there is really subjective and conditioned to the inner 47. So its not pure "all is in your mind" thing- things are not easy outthere , real problems however , I can remember seen those problems morphing and what change them comes from within.

The thread title automatically becomes the question, unbeknownst to me.

For example, I get the impression from LiSe's Yi that it's always ones self which is the cause of ones own 47, as though by choice.

Maria, even if the oppression is induced by an outer circumstance, would it be unusual to receive 47.1? How would you explain this?

I'm not sure if its sorely one's choice to put oneself in 47. I don't read that in 47 - only because i have 47s that are induced by circumstances, to myself and others too... However , there is a choice indeed, the one called "last freedom" - to choose how you respond to those external events

47.1 is not unusual. I had one. Tried to find a previous post talking about it but don't have a clue where I talked about it. I got 47.1 (and another line i don't recall) about travelling to a island to meet a friend who lives abroad and came for vacations to my country. I really wanted to go and meet her but this trip would dry me up money-wise & physically wise. I had to travel more that 14 hours back and forth for meeting her for 2-3 hours ( not very good for my body) and the cost was big for my economic condition and that created a very 47 situation as it was so against my character not to go even reality was saying its too much.

Younger niece was in the office with me and my 47 feeling- like I couldn't breath must be so obvious that she asked me what is going on. I said such and such that i really wanted to go but... Its very funny, because she spoke with that serious voice and said " well, my opinion is that you should go if you want to because you haven't had any vacation for a long time and you deserve that trip... " ... Needless to say that this heavy feeling evaporated. The circumstances remained the same , however they no longer "oppressed" me like before...

I voted the 80%, because ultimately it's my choice to be oppressed by what may even be an oppressive situation. However, there are the rare times oppression is so literally thrown over me that I have no choice to change circumstances. However, even then I can overcome actually feeling oppressed and get out from under that poor me tree, and start searching for well water.

So, I agree too with 100%, and I agree also with "other," because it can include both, as Maria points out.

I'm 99% sure that the other line was 47.3 hence the "misfortune" i was thinking about and worried.

Timely topic, thanks sooo. I voted 50% after having spent a good part of yesterday wringing meaning from 47, more precisely 47.4. What's wrong with me?

Outie: I always feel low this time of year. My shrink finally concluded, after seeing me for almost a year, that I have SADD. Nothing I can do about it, as my eyes are far too sensitive to stare into those lights without blinding pain.

Innie: I'm avoiding everyone and everything. Little setbacks knock me on my tush. Not taking charge of time or space, my apartment looks like aftermath of Katrina.

Innies and outies feed on each other, creating downward spiral--flushing the system, sorta. Baby/bath water?

50-50 leaves me in perfect balance, like a statue of a ballerina on one foot, kinetic energy going nowhere, exhausted from the effort.

You might think about starting this poll again in April, when the days grow longer. And/or, asking people who live south of the equator to chime in.

Re-SAD: yes, I know how that goes.Very 47. I'd be down the same hole now without vitamin D supplementation (4,400IU daily). (I have one of those ultra-bright lamps sitting in a cupboard somewhere - it didn't make an appreciable difference for me, so you may not be missing much there.) No medical advice here, of course, just old-fashioned anecdote.

Excellent idea

I just realized that I live a bit north of the 47th parallel, which is a combo, I suppose, of an outer and inner 47. Moving into warmth plus humidity would be a good thing. Latitude 26.6 -- Ft Lauderdale, Naples, FL -- always works for me.

Hexagramically, it works really well too, Wilhelm: "one attains the way of heaven," and Wing: "Align yourself with the tao and you will meet with unparalleled success."

Heagram latitudes? Who knew?

(I did actually live exactly on 26.6 very happily)
