Hex. 51 and how to cope with anxiety

This morning I had to pass through a difficult work checking/meeting/interwiew (and whatsoever...), but everything has gone surprizingly ok, even if I worried about what was to come for more than three months (I had reasons for it, for at the past meeting I was about to ruin myself with my own hands - or with the hands of somebody who positively hates me, it's still not very clear...!). Anyhow, at 8 a.m. I have asked the Oracle: "What is about to happen?". The answer was 24 changing to 51 - that seemed to mean that there were some risks (line 4), but I could find my way out of them. Maybe this time the Oracle was too cautious, for nobody said a single word against me. I write all this only because it is not the first time I get hex. 51 as an answer (I must admit it is one of the hexes I am more acquainted with...), and it seems to me it always says: "Yes you are terrified, but you're going on nonetheless!". BUT, does it have other meanings? Kisses to all.

I suppose it does have other meanings but more often than not I also find it means what you said - one is afraid, shook up, apprehensive but the cup is not spilt, one proceeds nonetheless, one doesn't let apprehension ruin anything at all. For myself i don't think it has ever meant some great shocking occurrence, only feelings of shock which though terrifying are dealt with with. I think 51 has alot to do with anxiety feelings yes and the best way to cope with them is advised in the lines, ie don't let fear immobilise you, stay confident.

I sense new beginnings here. Thunder is formed by the first entrance of yang into the trigram of the receptive and Return comes about from the first entrance of yang into the hexagram of the receptive. Both instance the arrival of new potential on some level. It could be that whatever is in the air has not yet manifested itself, as the entering line is in the first place, outside the affairs of the world. (kind of similar in spirit to line one of the creative) That may be the reason nothing appeared out of the ordinary at work. The fourth line indicates that whatever is going on will further you if you remain centered and not allow yourself to be thrown off your axis of gravity, realizing you may have to go it alone in consequence of the new potential. Bottom line, I just get a sense that the whole of the affair has not revealed itself yet.

It seems to me maybe there is a bit too much cautiousness on your own part. The judgement here is certainly favorable. (see the posts in the blogs about hexagram 5 and anxiety.) You are working with others with whom maybe you do not have a close connection. But there is a close connection somewhere. It could be someone on the physical level, or it could be your own spiritual power. Whatever, perhaps it is time to let go of worry, and just go about your business. In hexagram 51, in spite of the terror all around him, he sticks to his job. And he does not allow the fear to grip him.

If, I understand correctly you were asking about the meeting that you were about to have that morning.

The line says that if you miss this opportunity to do your thing then you will have problems, but you went ahead with the meeting and all went well because Hex 51 is promising you a pleasant surprise that will make you happy, and it did.

Thank you all, you have been so helpful! Magictortoise is perfectly right - the whole business is not completely over yet (I still do not know if I can have a new contract with the university), but anyhow I am much more relaxed, as nobody complains about what I have done. It is VERY difficult for me not to be paralysed by fear, or by anger: but it seems this time I did right. I am going to consult the Oracle about what I have to do in order to be published (remember I have a novel under judgement?) - if the hex is too obscure, be sure I'll ask for your opinion! You asked what was going to happen. I think the I Ching gave you a literal discription of the next couple of hours.

This seems to discribe the interview. Looks like the I Ching was telling you that they were going to be willing to take your assessment of your performance - let you "examine" yourself - and so as long as you didn't say something to shoot yourself in the foot you were going to do just fine.

Right now it is very comfortable, although I suppose, but likely wrong, that there are a few old members that want to ring my neck. And I don't blame them. Well, it's okay, I have a thick skin, but yeah, you are right, return and retreat. I hadn't thought about that.
