I'm very new at the I Ching and have been studying and learning from all of you here, as well as the books I've recently purchased. I've been trying to get to a level where I'd be able to converse on this forum. But you all are so Ahead of me!

Recently, a friend asked me for my advice regarding her son. They were all ready and set to take him for his scheduled driving exam and he suddenly decided not to go.

I decided to use the I Ching to answer her question. I received Hexagram 52, lines 2, 3, 4 changing to Hexagram 64.

The interesting part of this whole reading was also where the planets were stationed at the time. There was a full Moon in Cancer, Mars is at the moment in Cancer, rx and, Opposed to Jupiter and Saturn has just gone rx, as well.

The young man in question happens to be born in Cancer.

My question is, did the I Ching in some way shape or form, lead me to this realization that her son intuitively knew this wasn't the right time?

52 Gen/Gen, Mountain over mountain, "Keeping Still' definitely expressed 'putting on the brakes.

52.2 his fears got the best of him
52.3 although he truly wanted his drivers license, the fear of failing became more prevalent?
53.4 he ultimately decided 'not to go'.

Hexagram 64 'Not Yet Fulfilled" told me this young man still needed more guidance in learning to drive the car. Parallel parking, three point turn, etc.

This is what I came up with and shared with my friend.

Hexagram 64 (Wei Ji, Fire over Water) the title of this hexagram is "Not Yet Fulfilled" is literally about doubts flashing through our mind and questioning not only our abilities but our own intution. The thought of 'repeating old mistakes (teachers, parents can perpetuate this cycle), cloud our minds, unlearned lessons (karma) constantly flows through our minds. If he is swayed by these fears, he won't be able to move.....Mountain/Mountain will make sure of that. And Fire over Water is like Mars over the Moon......Mars is being flooded by the waters of the past, drowning in them! When Mars hits water, as we know, it takes away our energy, our vitality, our self-esteem, our ego! Your son needs to understand his fears, his past, is keeping him from moving forward. He needs to examine these old and outdated ideas and realize he isn't that person anymore. When he can come to terms with this, he will be able to navigate and push through the currents of these old waters. He can learn to breathe under these waters. Water is also giving, motherloving and healing BUT it has no shape of its own....it needs other materials to be seen. It must be poured into a bowl, a cauldron, to take on a shape.

Once he contains the water (emotions) nothing will be able to hold him back and he will be able to start a whole new World of confidence, trust, faith and courage by overcoming his own childhood limitations. Someone at a very early age, imprinted these fears on him. He needs to, in his own way (meditation) find out why? There's a lesson a treasure to be learned.

AND, We recently had a full Moon and MARS has been displayed brightly in the skies! I thought, this could have influenced him too! Theres your fire and water....or should I say Water and Fire!

It was this realization that I felt the I Ching was definitely directing me towards the influence of the planets at the time of this question.

Is it possible?

Hex 52.2,3,4 is all about keeping still, keeping his legs, hips and trunk still, it is as if he knows that his body will not do what his brain wants during the test, so he knows he will fail.

Hex 64 is saying that the driving test will be difficult, and that if he is not very careful and does not know how to navigate the test/course then he will fail.

I'm not clear what the actual question to the Yi was ? It looks like his nerves got the better of him so he will have to complete the test another time. I don't see it at all that it was best he shouldn't go or that he would fail if he did go. He froze basically through a high state of anxiety (52,3) and others could not help him with this (52,2) so he stayed put (52,4). Looking back thats pretty much what Ravenstar wrote.

Re astrology I don't consider anything important unless it relates to a persons personal horoscope drawn up for the moment of their birth and place of birth, otherwise its way too general. But then if you have a general intuitive feel for how to link it to the Yi's answers then its possible for you, if it seems significant to you most likley it is. The Yi seems limitless in ways it points us to answers.

This is very true. I never even considered the legs, hips and trunk for this symbol, but as I looked back at it, yes, stuck in the mud definitely could refer to the lower extremities.

This was his excuse at the time, that he truly felt he needed more experience in the manoeurving of the vehicle.

Thank you rosada! I have read your posts with great interest! I've learned a great deal from your wisdom and from everyone else here. And me, another voice?? Well, not sure I'll be able to see the depth of the hexagrams yet......in time maybe, with all your help.

Thank you trojan. These words, froze, a high state of anxiety, and others couldn't help him, explains what I was 'hoping' to express' in my long winded thoughts. You said it in one sentence!

I'm not sure I totally agree with this as we are all affected to some degree, when the planets play 'out of tune'. But, I also agree that without knowing someone's natal chart, we cannot truly see the influences, forces or patterns the planets will have on one's nervous system.

Thank you again everyone!
