Hello everybody,

I just joined this wonderful site and I am very happy for what we can learn from this forum... I have been reading the postings about this line of Hex 54 and found it quite interesting, starting with Hilary's comments:

Receiving Hexagram 54 often reflects a very insecure, frustrating situation. But although this is change you didn't ask for and can't control, it could still be bringing you something of value. 'Marriage' can also mean finding your own place and fulfilling your destiny. The moving lines will show where you find yourself in this new situation: if line 5 is among them, then great things can grow from here.

My question for the reading was: what happens to me in regards to X.

The line says:

The sovereign I gave his daughter in marriage.
The embroidered garments of the princess
Were not as gorgeous
As those of the servingmaid.
The moon that is nearly full
Brings good fortune.

I understand that is about being humble, finding the joy in the place we are in. Finding contentment because we accept the situation -which is out of our control.

Any input about how to interpret this line?

Merci beaucoup!

I remember receiving 54 a lot during a time in my life when I was separated from my husband. But 54.5 is auspicious as the picture is of a waxing moon- which holds promise of a propitious future.WB denotes you may be with someone who is not your equal, but that position does not matter to you. Being flexible and free of vanity will lead to good fortune.

Line 5 from Alfred Huang

I thought this interpretation is helpful:

(5) FFh Six. Marrying Maiden alternates to Joyful (58)
The Yao Text says, "King Yi married off his sister."This topic also appears
at the fifth line of Advance (1 1) =. King Yi was a king of the Shang
dynasty. This line is a yin element at the fifth place, the place for a king.
Here it represents a king's sister. It responds to the yang element at the
second place and symbolizes that the king has married his sister to his
subordi~ateT. his yin element is in a central place, indicating one who is
gentle and docile. Her virtue is as brilliant as the full moon. It is not
necessary for her to put on gorgeous clothes to show her prestige. For this
reason her garment does not look as gorgeous as that of her maid attendant,
who accompanies her to marry her husband as a junior wife. This
line, the host of the p a , tells us that one should value spirituality more
than materialism.
