hi everyone :)

so . . after receiving a whole bunch of 51s the past month in my readings on a specific issue in my life (much of which I believe just referred to electronic communications), now the Yi wheel has turned and i keep getting all kinds of combinations of 59 about the same issue . .

the intriguing part here though, is how 59 sort of materialized a couple days ago:
Coming back home the other day, my flatmate showed me an anonymous note send by post in the office: the envelope contained only a small slip of paper where the following phrase had been typed: "the ocean is released by the wind" -definitely a 59 image, no?

the only plausible explanation we came up with was that this was probably part of some art project whereby such notes were mailed (still not sure if there will be more of them or if other people have received them)
thinking more about it and reading about 59 here I run into the idea of 'seeds spread' (excuse me but have lost track of the actual post and poster of this :() which fits perfectly our explanation: words spread among people like the wind spreads the seeds hoping that they will find fertile ground and blossom . .

I must admit, at first i was a bit reluctant of seeing this incident as a manifestation of 59, but Yi was resolute:
'what was that about?": 3 to 59 lol!!

there you have it then . .hex. 59: 'the ocean is released by the wind'
now just curious to see that young sprout breaking ground . .

Beautiful answer :)
Floods (59) can make a lots of damages but they can turn also the soil fertile, so that seed (3) can sprout easier. End of difficulties ? New begginnings ?

Yes, very interesting image of 59 - "the ocean is released by the wind". Having been in storms and rough waters many times, feeling the water spraying my face, it felt as though part of me dissipated with the waves. Frightening and liberating, both.

The scattered seeds idea is something that's never occurred to me, but I really like it.

yes, sea-spray was the feel i got from this too :)
but being in A'dam it was also the image of being soaked from persistent, wind-driven rain that came up . . as if the ocean was trapped in those heavy clouds and cold air releases it . .
funny but there's not much gentleness in those images and in the Yi wind is referred to mainly as 'gentle' not sure why . . wind can often be quite the opposite of it . .

Ok, this I have a little trouble with, though LiSe's translation/interpretation agrees with what you've described. To me, rain would be the opposite of 59, and flooding is shown in 28. Rain is condensation, which is too heavy to stay aloft, and so falls. 59 - Mist is what evaporates from the lake or sea and becomes clouds.

My personal little metaphor for 59 is lighten up.

But these things are a bit like silly putty, in that they can always be squeezed into a context where they all can apply. And legitimately so. For instance, LiSe's - "Dissolving all the rigid structures, like opinions, prejudices, ties, obligations...", in this context, rain drops were liberated from the clouds:), and that makes perfect sense.

But overall, would I consider rain as 59? uh uh.. not unless we're talking very fine partials, which float and are blown around and gathered to fall again. But right there is a situation which many hexagrams could apply, including 59.

No doubt the clouds release the rain, though. That's what makes interpreting for another so dicey. If it spoke clearly to you that way, I'd go with it. But I'll tell ya, some of my wrong interpretations (all of my own ignorance) caused significant enough damage to cause me to always tie my fate to mulberry trees, and ask "What if I'm wrong? What if it should fail?"

That is interesting ! Mist, has less resistance to wind than a river or a rainfall. Yes, makes sense

yes, the more I try to understand the Yi, the more I find myself going back to the relations of micro-structures to bigger pictures, a paradoxical balance . . which makes me think of A. Watts's speech posted on hex. 50 . . laws should not be written down. The Yi is a text (among other things!) but is as elusive as not to be 'set in stone' so to say

as soon as I wrote down my previous post I got to thinking how the ingenuous Dutch people have used air to disperse the floods . .
is it a duck or a rabbit??
contexts and focal points I guess

disperse |disˈpərs|
verb [ trans. ]
distribute or spread over a wide area : storms can disperse seeds via high altitudes | camping sites could be dispersed among trees so as to be out of sight. See note at scatter .
• go or cause to go in different directions or to different destinations : [ intrans. ] the crowd dispersed | [ trans. ] the police used tear gas to disperse the protesters.
• cause (gas, smoke, mist, or cloud) to thin out and eventually disappear : winds dispersed the bomb's radioactive cloud high in the atmosphere.
• [ intrans. ] thin out and disappear : the earlier mist had dispersed.
• Physics divide (light) into constituents of different wavelengths.
• Chemistry distribute (small particles) uniformly in a medium.
adjective [ attrib. ] Chemistry
denoting a phase dispersed in another phase, as in a colloid : emulsions should be examined after storage for droplet size of the disperse phase.
