Hex 8 - for staying away?

So, if you got hex 8 unchanging to a question: "What if I make a real effort to avoid/stay away from this group of people?" would you take that to mean - Yes, staying away is a good thing or No, keep together with this group?



I had asked, previously, What is the correct situation in all this and how to achieve it? - and received 19 unchanging which was not very informative so i followed it up with the above question.

Suffice it to say, it's a social situation at work that's just really exhausting me in terms of not being able to know where I fit in and while I feel like it would be easiest to just run away and hide and forget about it, but a) I am afraid of burning bridges and b) I feel there is something in here to be resolved, otherwise I cannot explain the never ceasing 'pull'. I want to feel settled and safe and this group of people just keep unsettling me. Urhg.

I think 8 unchanging pretty much asks you to look at what gave rise to the question, examine yourself and make your choice. This is all about choosing where you belong and it is I am afraid totally for you to choose. That is your answer 'you choose'. It doesn't tell you to stay away or to stay it only tells you to make your choice yourself by examining yourself.

R.L. Wing's translation and commentary says this about hex 8 unchanging:

"Receiving UNITY in its static form suggests that without strong social connections you may indeed become an island isolated in the sea of your own illusions. Make an attempt to embrace the opinions and perceptions of others, if only for a moment. Cross the sea and explore new frontiers of ideas."

It is certainly true that some of us (like me) are shy and would end up isolated if we didn't get a nudge from Yi occasionally about going out and being with other people, uncomfortable as that can be.

I would be wary of interpretations for 8 advising going out of your way, being uncomfortable, etc.
8 is about finding home, the place where you belong, not forcing things in unnatural ways.

I think, having read stuff and thought about stuff, that 8 unchanging means Keep With.
