I asked the I ching "why didn't it work out between me and P?" and I received 14 line 6. I asked again today "why didn't P commit to me?" Same response. So, I rephrased it as "why didn't P want to be my serious boyfriend?" I received the same answer!
What is this supposed to mean? That it was good that it didn't work out between us? Thanks!

14.6 is a very auspicious reading and to actually get it three times in a row ( are you sure?!) is signifcant to you.
as for what it means, I can say that sometimes 14 has signified to me The Truth of the matter. To exerience the truth is a great possession. heaven has a hand in line 6, it could mean you were guarded by heaven from a relationship that would not be right for you. sometimes not getting what we want is a very great gift.

conversely, there is a possibility that the hex /line means eventual success in this area, not right now, perhaps, but that on some level this is sanctioned by heaven.

thirdly, in contxt of your questions, you may have been out of hs league, someone he didnt feel sanctioned by Heaven to have.

Wow! Receiving the same hexagram in three successive readings! That is truly significant, indeed!

I suspect that, having received the same hexagram three times in a row, you already know the answer to your question.

Perhaps Wing's statement in his translation of the I Ching will help:

The Book of Change is an eccentric oracle. Anyone who has used it for any length of time will discover that it has a distinct personality. It could be that it takes on the personality of the user, although it frequently assumes a startling and unpredictable posture. Sometimes it likes to carry on a witty and multifaceted conversation; and at other times it petulantly dwells upon a particular issue or problem. If you ask the same question, over and over again, it often gives you the same advice couched in various nuances. At other times it may become irritable and insulting when you importune...

...You may find it a willful book - neither to be put off nor to be used aimlessly. As your relationship with the Book of Change becomes more sophisticated, it may embarrass you, startle you, tease you, frighten you - and occasionally share a good laugh with you.

Have you thought about asking the oracle why it keeps giving you 14 when you ask this question? Or what it wants you to know by giving you the same hexagram three times?

Thank you both for answering my question. Yes, I know it is strange to get the same answer several times in a row, and that's actually what made me a believer in the I Ching. This has happened before for me and that's when I feel that it is really trying to send me a message.
Listener, I really liked your interpretation of the hexagram. It makes a lot of sense.
Petrosianii, I haven't tried that approach yet. I'll definitely give it a try.

One of two things is the case regarding the situation you've described:

1 Heaven's helping you, heaven's on your side in your efforts to work through the break with P.

2 Heaven actually brought about the break between you and P because, whether it seems that way or not, it's exactly what your inner life and development need right now.

Which rings more true for you?

Dobro, thanks for your reply. I guess that #2 seems to be the case here, whether I like it this way or not.
